Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while. Got my 1st emergency antibiotics this morning as I have a chest infection. It came on over the weekend. I feel so weak and extremely tired. Is this normal for a flare-up. This is my first since February when I was diagnosed with COPD.nmy oxygen as dropped a little, temp is fine, crackling on chest and a little wheezing. I am not sleeping well, get to sleep but can't stop asleep. Wake frequently throughout the night. My hubby Ian, says I'm gasping for breath during my sleep. I'm now tracking my sleep with my fit bit. It as some interesting findings. Over he last week I have averaged 4hrs sleep, waking average 5 times a night. However I'm not aware of waking up. Anyone else have this problem. Hope I find you all having a good day. Breathe easy everyone.

Thanks for your reply Angie be, I'm just about to go to sleep now. I'll have to get my hubby to wake me at 8pm, so I can take my morphine ( for my widespread arthritis,). I also take my slow release inhaler then too. Nurse told me to start antibiotics from tomorrow. She also gave me my management plan and number for our Emergency Care Team. Like myself, this is all new. I have some insight, as my last job was in Health care. Glad you sleep well, wish I could too.
Hi, little consolation but I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you! Just ended emergency meds (plus hospital/GP's/Walk-in centre etc!).
Whilst other catch a cold we do proper serious infections! COPD sufferers attract the SAS type bugs not just the TA version!
Weak - I get sooo week I'm nearly a fortnight!
Tired - like Michelin man!
Gasping - like the day I learned to swim!
In all seriousness, I've just had the fortnight from hell with all the same symptoms (add to that I have sleep apnoea!) so I feel your pain.
Take the meds, sleep as much as you can (anytime, any place, anywhere)
Just wondering ... wake up to take meds? I'm no expert but wouldn't you be better off staying asleep and taking them when you wake naturally?
Keep warm and get well soon
Hello y not, my meds I take on a morning at 8am and then 8pm, they are a slow release morphine to help with my arthritis. I have to take them at these regular times to keep pain under control. If I'm going to be in bed a lot resting, I would have an added problem of chronic pain to cope with as well as the COPD. I'm so pleased that you say you are feeling better now y.not, it sounds as if it was horrendous. Glad you feel better now.
Hi since being diagnosed with copd I find my chest infections are worse than before. They seem to take longer to go and I always need steroids as well as ab's to clear them. I also feel more tired and also cough a lot more. It always takes me longer to recover as well.
I hope yours isn't too bad and you are feeling better very soon. Take care.
Thank you z
Thank you you Lilaclil. I seem to have caught mine very early stages, which is probably due to reading posts in this forum. Haven't as yet got a lot of info from surgery, but plenty from this forum. I knew what I was looking for, and got myself to see one of our nurses.
This forum is great isn't it? Nearly all the knowledge I have comes from the lovely people on here. It's very comforting isn't it? Take care.
