a day for celebration - the Magic of Midsummer

we are so fortunate when the weather is fine to be able to enjoy so many hours of daylight made all the better the further north we are

although a Celt sadly I will not be over the border this year to be enjoying the hours of daylight and glorious sunshine but remember fondly some of the years my wife & I have spent there with many family members

Midsummer's Day, or the Summer Solstice that I prefer calling it was being celebrated at just after 5 o'clock this morning - some of the pictures that the BBC have on line showing those celebrants enjoying the Day at both Stonehenge and Avebury really are fun to view

I prefer celebrating at Avebury myself: the pub close by and the easier access make it all the more enjoyable. I have some lovely memories of one year in particular, enjoying the day at Avebury with both my mother and granddaughter along with my brother who was a great friend of the Druids

not quite healthy enough to be travelling this year I do have such glorious memories to dwell on

even though this day marks that point in time when our light evenings start to draw back it is still a special moment for us all, all of you do enjoy what you can of this Summer Solstice

Love & Peace

I have looked at the photos of the celebrations on the BBC news site...thanks.....there is also a video of the Beatles spreading the word of love and peace in 1967 on the same site .

Can it be fifty years ago?

Happy Solstice to you too Wully. I always like to mark it by doing something special on this shortest night of the year. Tonight I went to see an installation called 'Museum of the Moon'. It's a giant moon, seemingly floating in space with wonderful lighting effects and soundtrack of astronaut's voices. It was really stunning. Now I'm sitting in the garden enjoying the evening light and at dusk, I'll take my cats for a solstice walk on the grassy riverbank across the road and take my shoes off, to enjoy the cool, tufty grass. Bit of an old hippy really :) This year it's going to be just two cats. We are all still missing Splash who had to be put to sleep two weeks ago. He always enjoyed nocturnal strolls.

Happy Solstice to all of you.

"Bit of an old hippy really"

I still am, in my heart, memories of sixties will be with me forever. Happy carefree days, before I acquired responsibilities, how did that happen?

We grew up I suppose and responsibilities are part and parcel of that. But every once in a while it's okay to slip off and indulge your inner flower child :)

I do so trust that everyone has special memories about some aspects of their life.

Yes the sixties were such a special time for me. I did so love that underground feel to the music and my love of music continues to be with me. Even better having that special music in a special place. Amazing though what a difference music makes to any place it surely passes on a spirit of place to mingle with the music.

Today, a little cooler, I sit in bed listening to "The Psychedelic Folk Dream" [on Spotify]. Some of this music added to my own knowledge but there really is a delightful hippy feel to much of it. So many of you I am sure will enjoy it.

As I sit here listening, the wall at the bottom of my bed has a most delightful Solar Calendar, highlighting with graphics the status of the moon through 2017. Alongside this Calendar is a most delightful chart illustrating the Celtic Wheel. Not that I remember all the names but our special time of year is known as Litha

Looking forward to the new spoke in this Wheel of Life in early August known as Lammas, listening to such reflective music, any measurements or details about COPD become totally removed from my consciousness. I could be anywhere and loving it. Oh it helps that we had The Solstice yesterday but I am just not noticing the breathing or absence of it as I lie here and relax. Oh I love it!

Alright the feeling will pass as we get back into life as we know it but easy enough to drift away again as long as we keep remembering. Life can get so full of medications, oxygen, surgeries, nurses, doctors that it becomes too easy to forget to relax.

All of you enjoy your day[s] and relax that soul, let the spirit revive you
