I have been told I may have copd my husband has type 2 diabetes, he's on bp pills, cholesterol pills and on thyroxin, we're heading to China for 17 days and have paid under £300 and that included insurance on phones and tablets from Avanti travel insurance

Hello, we use Get Going but since diagnosis of my husband's copd we have not travelled long haul so this could probably be the cause of the cost along with age and chest infections per year. Anyway give them a try you never know✈️

Best option is shop around, I have found it often goes up if you stay with same company. Often goes up with age rises too and definately if you have had illness in the six months before renewal. Good luck in your search.

Hi, I am on oxygen 24/7 (lung sarcoidosis & bronchiectasis) and travel insurance is very expensive but worth it to live life to the full and, as I intend to travel to warmer climes in Europe as much as possible, I have found annual insurance best value. Try All Clear Medical travel, £900 for the year. Good luck and happy holidays.

Cheapest is seldom the best when it comes to insurance. There is no point in taking out cheap insurance if they don't pay out !!

Ask around to find people who have been well looked after when taken ill and then make your mind up.

alot of insurers go by how many meds you are on,and how many hospital admissions and recent chest infections. But some quotes are outrageous.

Try Marks & Spencer. I've used them twice. There questionnaire is identical to all the others, so exactly the same declarations of existing conditions but VERY much cheaper than the so-called 'specialists'. What annoys me is the crude nature of the questions - like "have you ever been prescribed oxygen?" Not are you 24/7, ambulatory only, what flow level, etc. They call themselves 'specialists' but there's no assessment or dialogue. Basically your risk level is assessed by an algorithm.

RE-CAP on Insurances. Went online and looked at Avanti and they quoted £665 for a single trip to Spain needless to say we won't be having them either ... Actually scrolled through and found another one for AllClear which was just under £300 so going for that one and it is Annual .... watch this space though !! x
