Dear all, I posted the other day and have had my sprirometry, 3 years ago (age 52) I thought I had 42% lung function. The nurse said it had slightly improved since then but the print out says FEV1 28% pred. Confused unless I misunderstood 3 years ago. Any advice please greatly appreciated.

Hi I think the pred is short for predicted.. You should have another FEV1 figure for just your current lung function.
If this isn't the case then the only thing I can think of it to get back to your nurse and ask.
Hi LL, right that pred means predicted, but I think 28% of the predicted figure is the current lung function. What is predicted is for a well person, but it is a bit confusing.
Hydrogena, might be a good idea to call the BLF helpline and discuss it with them, or as LL suggests get back to your doctor. If you have the printout of the results, could you scan or photograph them and post them here? (Always ask for a printout to take away with you.)
Thank you, yes speaking to the BLF tomo, will ask for a print out,
Hi there,On my last spirometry tests i had similar decline but was advised that my lungs had deteriorated by 10% on a yearly basis but that was because a) i had maintained a reletively poor lifestyle by continuing to smoke and also i had had no treatment or advise for the previous 3 years.Needless to say i am addressing both of these issues,But therei would appear to be an algorithm or progression diagnosis curve that applies to most lung diseases but i do not wish to be alarmist and this can probably be addressed and to a certain extent stableised with the right advice and care.good luck and best wishes
Yes understand results now, not good and in a state. Ty for asking x
