Hi, I had a cataract removed eight weeks ago, in my right eye, the left one is still to be done. My problem is I am disoriented ever since. The problem being is my right eye is now long sighted whereas .and my left short sighted, consequently , with glasses' off, .Right eye good, left eye blurry, glasses on left eye good ,right eye blurry, .Has any others experienced this problem. I feel very vulnerable.

This is quite normal for some patients.

Often opticians can help until you have the second one done.

Have you thought of taking one of the lenses out?

Yes tried that PMR, result was slight double vision, still not helping disorietation.

whateveryou try, it takes time for your brain to catch up and adapt. It should correct itself after the second op.

Hi

While you are waiting for your next operation would a eye patch not help.

Or if you have pair of old glasses remove one the lenses.

Hi Peejay. It sounds as though your op was a resounding success. I would take Pete's advice and remove the right lens in your glasses until the other eye is done. I now have two eyes with different abilities. The right eye has a fancy lens and corrects long distance and the left eye does the reading. The consultant said that only certain people's brains can do this. Good look with the second op.

This is quite a good explanation:-

Had the same problem two years ago. After wearing glasses since I was ten years old ( 72 when I had the surgery) - I was monstrously short sighted apparently. Anyway, had surgery on the worst eye - given choice of restoring long sight, which I did so that I would eventually only need reading glasses. Like you I was in limbo, perfect long sight almost immediately in the right eye, left still short sighted. Optician put a plain lens in the right side but I felt completely disoriented so bought cheap reading glasses of the shelf in Tesco so though not ideal, it meant the right eye was fine for distance but the glasses meant I could manage to read with both eyes. Hope that makes sense !!!! 👀 Fortunately I only had to wait for a month to have the second surgery. Amazing results - 75 years old now & got a new job flying with the Red Arrows !!!!!!! 😂
