Hello Ann, and a very warm welcome to the group. I hope that you find it useful. There's always someone who is able to give support and advice should you need it, or just pop in for a chat.
Look forward to hearing more from you soon.
Take care. Pam XXX
Hi Ann welcome to the group. I was dx in 2006 with COPD. And at the moment I am stage 2 moderate. But have the symptoms of stage 3. Take care. Xx
Hi Ann, I was diagnosed around 6 years ago and have just been put into stage 3. I've only recently joined the site but found everyone very helpful and friendly so feel free to ask questions x
Hello and welcome to the site, π xx
Best advice for someone newly diagnosed is as follows. If you smoke then try and stop. This is perhaps one of the most important actions you can take. Next if you are under or over weight see a dietitian because this can also affect Copd. The next is start exercising this can delay progression. Take your medications and get help with any chest infection quickly.
I was diagnosed over Christmas and remember how I felt. Copd is not a death sentence and there is lots you can do to help yourself. Ask your GP for pulmonary rehabilitation. Try not to Google any problems as you will get conflicting information. My best advice to you would be to ring the BLF helpline where you will get good advice and support.
Hi Annie209. Welcome to the forum.
My diagnosis was 100 days today lol I say it like that cause I stopped smoking 100 days today ...
Stop smoking if you can exercise regular its turned me around totally..i eat a brilliant diet now ...i walk between 5 and 10kms daily I do tai chi breathing exercises ...take your inhalers when you need them and get advice from your docs and nurses when you need it ..i knew I had it but choose to ignore it for at least 2 years ...but I was being stupid lol
Ppl on this forum are welcoming and relate to each other
Take one day at a time and accept you have copd deal with it and move to the next day...i seriously never exercised I ate rubbish and smoked too much now I do all the above and more good luck with things xxxx
Lots of good advice. Also try to avoid people with colds and flu, and wash your hands a lot so that you don't pick up any germs from door handles, etc - I wear gloves outside, which helps.
Hello Ann.
So glad you have found this site. It's a great place to find support and give support. Hoping to hear more from you. Take care.

Welcome to the forum Ann - I was diagnosed 16 years ago, now severe but still going strong. A good diet, good hygiene control (hand washing etc, educate your friends and family to stay away from you when they have viruses) and as much exercise as you can manage. Get a referral to pulmonary rehabilitation from your GP - this is a course of both exercise and education for people with lung disease. Diagnosis is a time of anxiety but this fades as you come to see that copd isn't a death sentence, but a condition you will learn how to manage. Take care
A very warm welcome Annie
Hi Ann and welcome. xx

Hello Ann, welcome to the site I have COPD like yourself , but was diagnosed about eight years ago fortunately it has remained stable for quite some time. Your main aim now will be to manage the illness, but lots of people on here can help with that , with help from the medics too. So hope to speak to you again soon.
I have had COPD for many years They were talking about me going on Oxygen last year but bit better this year have to work bit harder for Next March make sure the dreaded Oxygen is not getting near again.
Welcome x
Hi would just like to say thanks to everybody that responded and to make me feel welcome xx
Hi Ann, good to meet you. I'm also moderate but exercise as much as possible - hopefully will stop too much progression x
