Iv been told my employers are terminating my contract end of April due to being long term sick. I don't mind them doing as I was a newish employee when I went off sick. I've never been unemployed but want to enroll in a college course starting April 24th and then my 2nd course starts in September. Have you ever had your contract terminated xxxx

Hi Angie, I have been self employed for over 30 years now, but I know that if I wasn't I would have been on the scrap heap long before now just because of all the medical appointments let alone the periods of being too ill to work with questions of reliability etc..

I worked for a multi-national and was off work for over 5 months after being in ICU for 32 days. Their HR asked my manager to ask me when I was going to be back at work? Even though they had been told I was in a coma at that time? I have always been open about my health conditions and they were aware I had heart and lung conditions. However when I came back to work the manager told me I was going to get a written warning for being off for so long. I explained that they can do but I will take it further. E O Commission were happy to take up my case if they did. The company did look into it and decided not to. They then made me change job rolls and there was all sorts of dirty tricks from then on, but was then made redundant.
Be Well
I just read your post. OMG there really are no words for that kind of treatment.
I caught a chest infection and was sick for four days in January this year and the same happened last week I have another chest infection and am back on steroids and antibiotics. I stayed home for three days.My previous two years were good in that I had like two/three days sick in total. Hardly excessive.
Anyway I went back into work Thursday and had an email from my boss who was off Thurs and Friday listing all the work I needed to get done and pointing out how I had left the office without secretarial cover.
Needless to say I was nearly in tears. I have spent hours doing unpaid overtime at the end of each day, and working through my lunches over the years. So on Thursday & Friday I left at 5pm on the nose.
It's all about the money. Loyalty, compassion, understanding and caring seem not to exist amongst employers. Sad sad world.
You have had it so rough I hope you're OK.

I had an employer that knew I had to have blood tests which I manged to get at 16:00 once a fortnight. I used to leave it till the last minute but after a month or so I noticed my wages were lower than I thought they should be. They told me that they only pay on half days! I left at lunch and they asked me why I was going earlier than usual? I replied with I only work when I am paid for it!
Hi Angiecbr, I was very luck with my employer they were extremely understanding as I have fibromyalgia as well, they done everything that they could to help me return to work even giving me a day off in the middle of the week but in the end I still had to give up work, but I'm still technically employed with them and if I did miraculously improve health wise they would have to job for me not the position I held before but they would find me something, I still get all the same benefits as if I was working even though I have not been there for over 10 years, I do get a review every so often but long may it last,
I didn't think that they could terminate your employment when you were off sick, but I guess that with you wanting to go to college it worked out okay giving you the opportunity to start the course earlier, are you going to do something interesting at college,
All the best,
Loraine x
They can terminate your employment iv researched it taken union advice and if I had been a long term employee maybe different scenario . But as I was a new staff member I was on probation which they extended .they have offered demotion which I can't accept due to my pension and it wd still be the same department environment. So yes they can I want to do my degree in counselling services xxxx
Oh well I didn't realise that you were a new staff member , it doesn't seem fair but I wish you all the best with you collage course , is it a long course to become a counsellor, that would be a interesting career ., but hard work too,
The course is done over 2 years with exams in between only part time as my other qualifications got me in further than people without relevant qualifications .I imagine it will be hard for me but I'm sticking with it lol keep my mind occupied hun xxx
