Im unclear about nebulising when Im well shadow. Ive used a nebuliser when I've had serious infections and been told to reduce use and stop altogether when the infection has cleared up. The message has been, save them for when you really need them, i.e. for exacerbations. I think people in late stage copd may use them all the time but not so sure about that. Maybe someone will come on and tell us.

Hu I was told to use my nebuliser only when I really need to. Take care 😊 xx Bernadette

Good morning Bernadette. Do you mind me asking what stage copd you are at? And whether you are nebbing salbutomol or just saline? There seems to be quite a variety of ways people are using nebulisers. Might be interesting if the BLF ran a poll on their use.

I have no idea what stage in at, and to be honest don't want to I would only make myself worse. I have both saline and salbutamol for my neb, but only use it when I really need to.

We're all different - some manage by knowing as much as possible and some as little as they need to get by. There's no right way - whatever works for you. Thanks for the reply Bernadette.

Read the post I have put up about nebulisers by the BLF

I did - it didnt seem to say anything about stages or did i miss it?

Just to add, Im interested that people seem to get told different things about nebuliser use, and that different things seem to apply around the country, e.g. Time2drink having to buy her own which seems manifestly unfair.

No it didn't say anything about stages. But it did give useful information. I don't think it matters what stage you are at. I asked my consultant when I saw him in December what stage I was at. He said do you want the uk or American version so he gave me both uk I am moderate. American I am severe. Then he said he doesn't go by them. The next time I see him in June I will as why he dosnt go by them. That was the first time I have ever asked what stage I am at since being dx with COPD in 2006.

Ok, we crossed. As per my reply to Bernadette, people cope in different ways. And consultants too. Mine tells me everything as he knows that i respond well to knowing more - I am motivated to do more exercise to delay progression, so knowledge works for me. As I said, there's no right way. I am severe in both U.S. and U.K.

Sorry 02trees if I sounded abrupt didn't mean to. Yes we are all different. I too don't understand why we are all told different things. We should all be treated the same. What ever part of the country we live in. I too excersise I am doing the follow up cardio exercise the follow up from my last PR course. At my local gym I am breathless all the time when doing it but I will stick with it's for the 16 week. Then I get free membership to the gym on completion. Take care x

That's fine Nottobad - I know things can come across differently to how we intend them.

I suppose there are differences due to differing circumstances of our copd, different other conditions etc. But the different treatments seem to go beyond that. Very confusing. You take care too.

blf.org.uk/support-for-you/... This may help. I think you can use one at any stage. But I would check with your GP or resp nurse

See what you started off Shadow :D We're all a bit confused. As people have said, talk it through with your GP or respiratory nurse, or you could call the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555 office hours. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Take care.

Hi Damon and O2Trees and shadow4 me.....I only use my nebuliser in emergencies with Combivent as advised by my consultant years ago. For some reason now saline nebs make me worse .

I have just got another consultant appointment booked for May...been waiting since mid November. I have COPD/ asthma.

I am beginning to realise that they seem to be taking away the meds that were supposed to help us with copd example steroids and the nurse told me nebuliser only in very late stage ?From what I'm finding out there is not much left to give us a bit of relieve .I even asked about a patella but was told its not for COPD .Didn't mean to start a issue I am just curious how treatment is in different parts of the UK thankou for your answers x
