Hello, I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with pneumonia, though I am asthmatic this is the first time I have had pneumonia and was in hospital for a week. Since having pneumonia I have had a sharp pain in my shoulder on the same side as the pneumonia in my right lung, at times the pain has been excruciating, particularly on sleeping on my right side, picking up light objects or eating a meal at the table. I have also just been told that the ex-ray I had last week has come back clear, so if it has come back clear why am I still getting the pain? Is the pain normal with pneumonia or should I get rechecked over with my doctor?
Many thanks
Laylay

Hi I agree with pam I would see your GP again about the pain in your shoulder. If your X-ray was clear the pain in your shoulder must be caused by something else. Let us know how you get on x
Cant give you an answer Laylay, but there are several things it could be - maybe leftover pain from the pneumonia, or you could have pulled a muscle or even fractured something coughing, or you could have a bit of pleurisy. Or something else I haven't thought of
Definitely go back to your doctor to discuss this - hope you get sorted.
I have the same experience was diagnosed with pneumonia 2 months ago and after 2-3 weeks I noticed intermittent shoulder pain in the same side where the pneumonia was found, how are you now laylay Im just worried of something severe than pneumonia..
Hi ,I know it s been a few months since you posted about pain in shoulders after pneumonia,I had double pneumonia and now have pain in both shoulders/ upper arms , so I’m asking if you’ve now improved and if you saw a doctor ,and if so what was his diagnosis,
Thank you for getting in touch, I'm well, but still have problems with my back, the pneumonia took me a good 3 months to get over, and I actually thought the pain in my back was from the pneumonia, but after having an ex-ray and was told the pneumonia was clear, I knew I probably had an underlying problem. Doctors couldn't understand why I had the pain between my shoulders, which I still have to this day!
When I was diagnosed with the pneumonia, I was staying with a friend and needed the bathroom in the middle of the night, I think I got disorientated where I was, tripped and fell against a cast iron bath and was found in an awkward position, which is the cause of my problem.
I visited my chiropractor and he has worked wonders on my shoulders , as I get the pain in the middle of my back just under my bra strap, so every 4 weeks I'm making a visit to have it adjusted, he thinks that it's going to take time to heal properly and I could have some arthritis there now, but as he says Im lucky to be alive, as it could of been so much worse!
I do hope you sort out the pain between your shoulders as it could be from where your coughing, it was suggested to me, but we know our bodies, so maybe it's a bit more than that for you.
I hope this has been helpful to you, and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I also took and still do vitamin C and Berrocca tablets which again I have felt has built up my immune system over the last year, and has kept colds away.
Best wishes, and please do let me know how you are getting on. 😊
