Hi there, Is this the same as the Coils? I have just been advised that I can't have these fitted, as the mortality rate is too high...as yet..but here is hoping they manage to sort them as it seems a great idea. Its good to know that improvements are being worked on

I am also doing research on these as my husbands consultant suggested it,as there is now a dr at the hospital that does the procedure. So ask your g.p. Or consultant. From what I have read so far the valves are different than the coils. There is some info on you tube

It was planned for me to have the coils, it was then that my consultant said my hospital were not going to do them until they were more advanced, due to the mortality rate. I am now going to see about a lung transplant now. However i wish the coils were suitable for me...perhaps they are OK for others. I will ask about the valves when i go to Manchester Hosp. Thank you for your suggestion.

I had a lung volume reduction op in August 2016 - the surgeon cut out a third of the top lobe of my right lung. Keyhole surgery and back to work 6 weeks later. It's improved my breathing by about 20-30%. I have emphysema and COPD and am 64. Doc says that if I start wheezing again 2 - 3 years down the line, it will be the emphysema in my left lung and they will be able to offer me the same op. Feel so much better and enjoying life again.

I am so pleased for you, and happy that you could have that done. I was hoping to have the same but left lung not suitable, so its maybe transplant..but i am not certain about this until i know all the facts.

i spoke to my respiratory consultant, he referred me to surgeons who were conducting a trial, had them fitted in August, have had more chest infections since having them done, so not noticed an improvement as yet, still hoping. Another chap who had them done the same day said he felt an improvement immediately, its a very individual outcome, so a talk with your consultant is important.

Hi, its wonderful to hear that they are working ! I hope they start to work on you soon. My son and I tried and tried to get this treatment, i offered to do a trial also, but was refused. I am 63 so perhaps it could be an age thing? No idea. Hope you feel better soon

hi ross-35_ there was a chap on the same trial as me who was in his early 70s, so not an age thing where i live, south wales, but there were other factors, when i was on the trial, we had to be within a certain range of breathing, i only just made it in, but they were thinking of doing more trials and changing the parameters. Do you know why they refused you, could be worth asking again. Have recently read of a new treatment that involves burning the nerves in the lungs, i think stop stop the lungs tightening up, can't remember where i read this, but it sounded very good. hope my ramblings help! x
