I have been given a 3 day course of Prednisolone 6 x 5mg to take for a chest infection. I am concerned after reading the leaflet that it mention slowly coming off the drug. As my doctor has not suggested this.... Is this ok in my case

Thank you in advance

Cherry

hi I think if your on them long term you would be told to gradually reduce them. I take 8 x 5mg for 5 days when I have an infection never no problems when I stop them.

Thanks Sassy.

Don't worry that's fine. You only need to consider coming off them slowly if you are on them long term. x

Never seen anyone be given only a 3 day course. How many 5mg tablets per day? I'm usually on 6 tabs for 7 days.. and told to finish the course. Had 3 courses last 3 months.

I have been on 5mg prednisolone continuously for a long time. (I have saroidosis). When I have a chest infection my consultant has said I should take 6 x 5mg prednisolone for 5 days. I have been told by my consultant that you can stop taking them if you take them for just 5 (or 7) days, but if you take them any longer you should reduce the number of tablets very slowly, reducing by 5mg each week or fortnight, then reducing by another 5mg and so on.

Not what you're looking for?
