Good morning, and welcome.

I too have emphysema, but one thing that I have realised since joining this wonderful site is that numbers don't mean very much......so don't worry about the 57, it's more about how you feel and what you're able to do.

I'm 64, fev1 47, I work full time, am physically active and enjoying life. I'm currently on a pulmonary rehabilitation course and finding it very beneficial. The little breathlessness I did have has now gone, so I guess that the saying "use it or lose it " is pretty accurate.

I look forward to hearing more from you soon and would like to wish you a very happy and peaceful 2017.

Hi ,welcome to the best website for our health and advise from people who are or have been through the same thing at one time or another ,

I'm aged 70 and have been exercising regularly twice a week for the last 7/9 years (expcept when illness prevents it ) which is what happened on and off through this last year ,one illness or another preventing me from my exercises,,,,and in September this year my all time low of fev was 63 ,and the consultant wasn't happy ,,,I told him I could improve that level now well and healthy (as one can be with COPD ) he gave 3 months and so I started exercising 4/5 times a week at the gym I've attended since 2008 ,and on December 22nd I saw consultant again and had lung function tests ,,,,which he was shocked to see I'd improved to 76 fev ,,, some exercise is the key to my good health ,I think it's important to keep moving ,,, the old saying use it or lose it comes to mind ,best wishes for a healthy and happy new year ,

Hi Nanny1086 , That's wonderful! How inspirational for everyone..😁😁 What a great way to start the new year. I truly believe, as you say,use it or lose it. Not getting proper exercise, your lungs get stiff. Like your muscles, they need to be worked. I'm happy for you. Happy New Year...Ruby🌹
