I too had pneumonia and went through many antibiotics and prednisone. The steroid helped at first my lungs but I got puffy and then the mucus all came back. Am I having a side effect to prednisone?

Prednisone
Hi Candace, as far as I know, the mucus would not be a side effect of the pred. What the pred is for is to reduce or get rid of inflammation which narrows your airways and makes you breathless and makes it harder to cough up mucus. Someone may come on and give you more or better information though. But anyway you should get back to your GP or consultant and let them know this is happening.
Hi there Candace31meghan28 . (What a long name that is!) As @O2 quite righty explained, Pred's are to open your airways. However,as we are not medical professionals,it is always best to ring your Doctor (in the hope they even answer!). It may well be that the mucas is a left over from an infection but there are things you can be prescribed to try and sort it out. My local chemist has always been a helpful soul, if I can't get a doctors appointment straight away. Good luck and do let us know how you are feeling.
I have been on the Prednisilone see-saw too. I take the meds and my chest clears up then when I stop it the mucous all comes back. My new GP has said he wants me to wean off the med this time as the body can be fooled into thinking it doesn't need to make any of its natural steroid so has to be given chance to make it again. I'm hoping this will help me.
I don't know if this info will be helpful to you, but it might be worth asking your GP about weaning off and whether it is necessary. My consultant previously said it wasn't necessary.
