My GP has been telling me for years i have COPD but never had any symptoms only mild Asthma.
How does a GP diagnose COPT when i have never had any tests done.

Have you had a spirometry test or an xray
had x-rays in the past but always been clear. Its only 2 months ago i has a x-ray and diagnosed with fluid on my lung and pneumonia Repertory consultant at hospital said i had COPD after a CT scan.
The thing i wanted to know Mandy why has my GP been putting on my medical records that i have COPD since 2005 when i was working full time in the Building Trade.
He has never sent me for any tests
Hi not sure but think the GP can tell if he is experienced when checking you out at his surgery i went with symltoms of hernia he checked me over but instead of sendinding me to have the camera he must have heard something from my chest and sent me for a ct scan and i dont have hernia but bronchiectisis in both lungs
After being treated for pneumonia, I left hospital with a discharge note that said I had COPD. I thought this was an error as it had never been mentioned before. I had only had an x ray - no spirometry test. My GP thought it was an error but organised more tests for me and it was confirmed. As people have said in previous posts, they can obviously tell a lot from an x ray if they know their stuff.
My medical records way back in 1995 states i have COPD never been tested never had medication and worked till 2015 as a kitchen fitter heavy work. just had mild Asthma.
