Hi jean, have you ever been referred to pulmonary rehabilitation? Ask your GP or consultant when you see him/her in December. PR is a series of aerobic and resistance training exercises then about an hour's education of dealing with your condition, (people with other lung conditions also go). I'm also at the severe stage and did my second course last year, and do the PR workout twice a week and it keeps me mobile.

In the meantime you could just increase the amount you walk in your home - climb stairs too if you're not in a bungalow. You can do 'stepping' by going up and down on the bottom step. Sit to stand is another good one - you repeat getting up and sitting down, that should improve your fitness. There's lots of PR stuff on youtube - I'll come back with a link in a minute (don't know how to leave but still retain this reply!)

Sounds like you might need a medicine review but you'll get that with the consultant. Good luck :)

Thank you O2Trees - more good advice and a video I had not seen before that would be really helpful to people who want to go to pulmonary rehab. It is very like the one I did in Cornwall and I got a lot of benefit from it.

You're welcome Jean. Something to add is not to be frightened of breathlessness from exercise - one of the aims of PR is to get you breathless, obviously not to the point of distress. You could discuss this at your consultant appointment. A BLF slogan from a few years back was: "Get breathless" :)
