Is there any further research into ling decease ,because all the charities seem to consentrate on one illness .and we never seem to hear anything about lungs or get any nearer to a cure My dad died with Empyesma 45 years ago and the only advance they seem to have made since is a steroid inhaler.

Hello Ruben123, I can't seem to leave a post with no replies! Perhaps I shouldn't check so often.
You've had close family experience of COPD which must be difficult for you. I know what you mean - the cancer charities have had a high profile over recent years and lots of funding has been poured into improving survival rates. This does include lung cancer.
Chronic conditions are different. Diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, MS, fibromyalgia - and lots more. Research is always looking for cures. Surgery is rarely an option, though there are lung transplants now which are successful. For the rest of us there have been huge advances in managing symptoms and slowing down the progression of the illness. More drugs than steroid inhalers, valve or coil insertion, lifestyle changes like healthy eating and excercise, including Pulmonary Rehab, all combine to make life more tolerable for patients, though it's hard and gets harder.
There are lots of scientific ways forward. There's also the question of raising the profile of lung conditions and I think the best way to do that is to support the BLF, financially and by making the public aware.
I do go on. Sorry but you did ask!

You certainly have more knowledge than me Sue... I wish I had not answered now. Ruben take notice of Sue
I don't like empty answer boxes either Sue.

I doubt that, Jennifer!! Talk through the top of my head most of the time. ( Where on earth did that expression come from? )
What is it about a post which just sits there with no reply for hours? It seems so sort of rude.
Hope you're well? Probably don't have the strong east winds over there on the west coast?! I need to garden but can't do it in this.

Hello Sue, (from the top of your head of course.....sigh )
Oh no you don't. You are always very sincere in what advice you give and you do know a lot about it all.
Sounds as if it is a bit chilly...well - I was going in the garden today - there is a lot of tidying up to do as you know just now, but the East wind has caught us unawares, it's very blustery, not so much the wind but the chill factor. It's bound to be a little warmer for you.
I am fine thankyou...felt a little tightness yesterday but it came to nowt.
You keep warm and out of the wind......the garden will wit

Good afternoon Ruben,
I have not heard of anything further but have found this link relating to issues this year which may be helpful, but as I found it on Google..... don't blame me for looking. I'm trying to be helpful. I am sure someone on here can be of more positive assistance to you.
Don't really know the answer to your question Ruben but research into lung disease should be up there with the rest.
Best wishes to you. Xxxxx
Hi helenann, it's good to hear your wife is still improving. I am taking your advice and on the vit A and K regime myself.
Has your wife had any lung function tests yet?
It would be nice to hear some results.
I hope you are both keeping well. xx
helenann12 does your wife no longer need any medication nor oxygen for Emphysema since she has now fully recovered?
I'm sure the Medical Profession will be very interested indeed in your wife's recovery as I don't think there has ever been a documented case of full recovery from stage 4 Emphysema. I would love to read her story.
