Hi my name is barbara I am 57 years old and was diagnosed Ostend with asthma over 30 years ago and have managed it well up until ten years ago when I was diagnosed with copd which I find I am worse in the colder months since diagnosis I have had more chest infections than I care to remember and the shortness of breath has stopped me from working.

Welcome Barbie1, you have come to the right place for help, advice and support and hope to hear more from you soon. This is a very friendly site with lots of kind and caring people.
I care for hubby Pete who has sarcoidosis and copd but manages quite well with good medication. Hope you are getting the right treatment for you.
Take care xxxx
So sorry to hear how poorly you have been. I had asthma from the age of 5 and still get bouts of it 68 years later. I also have COPD but thanks to great Nurse and Doctor SEEM to be coping pretty well. Having said that I went down with a very heavy just cold at the weekend so fingers crossed, it doesn't develop.
COPD was the reason I gave up work at 62 but had the medical care been as up to date as today, I think I would have gone on working. I am glad that I did leave work but it was hard financially.
I do hope you will begin to get less infections and that your COPD team give you all the right solutions to manage your health.
A very warm welcome Barbie! 👋
I hope you'll enjoy 😊 being a member of our forum.
We're a friendly bunch & look 👀 forward to getting to know you. 🌸
A very warm welcome to you Barbie. cx
Hi Barbie
I am a newcomer to this group & have found it welcoming & helpful & also good fun. I am sure you will get lots of support, you certainly have had a rough time.
Endless infections are so debilitating, are you able to pinpoint what is causing them? I know in my case it seemed to be visits to the hospital or GP when I picked them up so now I always carry an antibacterial hand cleanser & use it freely. I also use a product called First Defence, manufactured by Vicks. It is a nasal spray & is supposed to protect against infection. I always use it during the colder months when I am going anywhere. It seems to work although I could just have been lucky. I do take great care not to touch my face when my hands have been in strange places. Also I use antibacterial wipes on supermarket trolly handles. Reading this back makes me sound like a prime OCD neurotic! I'm not really but I am conscious of how easy it is to pick up an infection.
Take care

Welcome to the group Barbie. Sorry to hear you've been having a tough time of things. I know how you feel. As a lifelong asthmatic myself, I had my problems, but I was still able to work. Until April 2013 when I was hospitalised, and diagnosed with COPD and Bronchiectasis. I haven't worked since. As someone who always worked from the age of 13, it was a hard adjustment.
With help from family, friends and the good folk here though, it has made things easier. Maybe look to see if there's a local Breathe Easy group in your area. They are always a good thing to join for help and support from others in similar situations.
Take care
