General introduction.

Hi, my name is Geraint, and Married. I was first diagnosed with C.O.P.D in 2008/209 but it quickly changed into Emphysema and more recently Bronchiolitis. I have many other complex health issues of which are all on-going.

I am housebound and in an electric wheelchair as I have a multiple range of illnesses that prevent me from doing certain tasks especially some of the most simplest of tasks of which I need to rely on others for assistance. I would like to know more about my conditions regarding my lungs as I lost me Mam to Chronic Airway Disease at the age of 62 due to working in the brick kilns in her early life and my father at the age of 32 due to heart heart attack after working in the mines and now I have the similar health conditions.

My wife sees me suffering day by day even though I am on home oxygen at night or when I am having bed rest during the day only for the time being and when I exert myself.

Any further recommendations, advice or support will be gratefully appreciated and welcomed. Thank you.

You certainly have your share of conditions and its amazing how youve already had to adapt your lifestyle to accommodate these. Geraint, Avery warm welcome to our forum. There is a helpline with manned with volunteers and nurses. They produce free leaflets and are a great comfort if you want to know how to go about your condition, what to say to your doctor, how to enroll with a pulmonary nurse who is a really lovely person who will monito you closer than the consultant -ask you GP to be enrolled. Here is the number for the British Lung Foundation:

Our Helpline - 03000 030 555 - is available to anyone living in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, providing guidance on how to manage and live with your condition.

They are open every week day.

We can relate our experience with ourselves and what we do to overcome our condition. Take courage, you can improve your condition with the right pieces of advice. I hope you get that sort of helpful advice.

Thank you Mic and appreciate the info. I see my respiratory nurse next week in clinic but have lived with this for quite some time now. Although I have a multitude of chronic ill health of which are rather complex, The main problem I have at the moment is tiredness but this could be down to the amount of medication or other health issues but my best guess is down to the lungs being constantly attacked by Pneumonia and damaging the base of both as my clinical team has suggested before.

G., yes the illness can drain your energy. Never be ashamed to rest. I fyou ever do some exercise, the same goes too; if you get short of breath stop and catch your breath up.

As others will testify, I'm sure that your condition can and will improve, given it the tender loving care and attention. Mic

Thank you but having other chronic long term health problems that won't improve according to my clinician team then it's just a little added issue but thank you so much for your help.

GME-70, TAke what the consultant says with a pinch of salt. Bronchiectasis was deemed to doom all of us. Many here, have thought otherwise and took themselves in hand, either with Vitamin D and zinc, or with exercises or with just walking the dog; they have improved.

I was dx in 1994. At first, I went down hil rapidly. I was also dx with not enough white blood celles. A blood consultant found this out and prescribed a fantastic drug that boost the production of my white blood cells.

It pays to build your self confidence, boost it upand have a go at very gentle exercises, or Tai Chi, or yoga. Believe that something wonderful is about to happen> Most of all, never give up! Mic

Hi Geraint, welcome to the site. What a lovely name, is it Welsh? It sound like you have a lot of illness but have managed to make the most of it.

I have copd bronchitis & empesema & long term asthma. I have other health issues but not respiratory related. I am fortunate that although I am, slow mobility wise, I can get out & about. There is always someone about to chat too &.many people will be able to give lots of information should you need it. Best wishes Margaret

The great fashion cure for asthma, according to the BBC, is Vitamin D3. I take it and have increased my dose somehow. Winter months will tell me if it's right! Mic
