We pulled into the kerb along the front at Lytham St Anne's yesterday and saw a plaque attached to the garden wall of a beautiful house facing the sea. It had been owned by George Formby. I could picture him singing .......... Leaning on a lamppost on the corner of the street in case a certain little lady comes by ..................he played a ukeleyly

My mum used to like George Formby and l have seen him playing his ukulele on TV in black and white. Nice to see the plaque in his honour. Xxxx
He had a home in Wroxham, Norfolk too.

George was notable in that he managed to get some fairly filthy lyrics past the censor, maybe that boyish grin made him seem more innocent than he was. His instrument btw, was a banjolele, not a uke.
That's lovely. I don't remember him but I know my grandpa loved him along with Bud Flanegan.
I think of George Formby nearly every week as there's a ukelele club above the pub nearby, in the summer the sounds waft across the street when the windows are open. I love it, they're really enjoying themselves. P
I have been reading about Gerge's life and apparently his wfe led him a dog's life - dominated him, no love life, very jealous. after she died he quickly became engaged to Pat Howson, but died before they could be married. Quite a story, he left his money to Pat, said his family were scroungers but it was contested , and a lot of the money went in legal fees.
