I often wake with pain in my right shoulder, sometimes severe, especially during an attacke or infection, I treat with pain killers.

Hi - This does not sound like the same thing at all but I sometimes find that my chiropractor - or an osteopath - can release tension in my ribs or back from the constant stiffness due to difficulty breathing.

Hi Claire, Yes, I agree it is often difficult to describe in writing. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but everyone here seems to have some great advice. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Claire, lungs have no pain receptors , so the pain usually comes from the strained muscles & connective tissue when you have been coughing lots. It is not unknown for severe coughing spasms to fracture a rib. For years I had severe pain under my right breast, slipping rib & Costochondritis were the problems caused by all the coughing. I can only say what my problems were, if your pain persists you will need to consult a Dr; or maybe ring the helpline on here. Love Margaret

I also get pain between shoulder blades when I get infection, be careful though this could be a combination or jus one of the following, severe lung infection, bronkitus, or eumonia, I usually start my rescue pack at this time and send a sputum sample to my doctors, for the pain between my shoulder blades I find 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and keep my back warm with with jumper and lie down for a while seems to do the trick. Hope this helps, god bless.

usually with repedative chest infections doctors will allow you to have a course of antibiotics and a course of prednisolone (steroids) on hand at home for emergency purposes if needed. This is usually called a rescue pack in my area, you still should if you can, send a sputum sample to the doctors for testing, but some times you can have a bad infection and cannot get any sputum for a sample. @charlieangus

Claire 934 : Hi Claire I went to the dr about 6 months ago and I described this pain I was having and I told him it was right around the rib area and I showed his where I was talking about. The pain was sharp and I almost jumped out of bed when it hit me cause it hit me so hard and was very unexpected. He sent me for an xray and then told me there was nothing wrong. No pneumonia just the usual copd but he told me to take 2 advil at night when I went to bed if I had pain there again. I have done this a few times and it really helps me. He said I could expect this to happen as there is inflammation from the coughing. So far so good everything as been ok. I hope this helps you and Iam sorry you are going thru this. essiet

Claire934 I hate taking steroids they are so full of bad side effects. My sister took prednisone for 34 years everyday and she had such problems. It makes your bones brittle and it causes stomach problems and she was always having broken bones. I could not tell you how many times she had a broken back from coughing. She stepped on a small pebble and broke her foot that is how bad she was. I miss her so much we were very close. We either saw or talked to one another everyday and I saw my Mother everyday. I miss both of them. My mother was so good to me and she was so full of love. Sometimes when I feel bad I just pray for God to help me and then I always say Mom maybe you can help me too. I just know she is an angel in Heaven cause she was such a good person. I sure hope you feel better soon and I will be talking to you again soon.
