I would definitely recommend you speak to your GP or consultant if you have one. There is the flight to think about too.
I agree with Marie, defo speak to your GP.
I would think it would be madness to even consider going! You have stated you are still unwell and I don't know how you would complete walk!
You should see GP and talk to organisers about how to rearrange trip.
When I took a cable car up to the station near the top of Mount Teide in Tenerife and came out at 3500 metres, my breathing was so distressed I had to take the next cable car back down. That was how I found out I have moderate COPD as I went to visit my GP after to find out what was wrong. Normally through all the singing I've done, my breath control is so good that no-one realises I have a lung problem; but I've had to give up any idea of visiting Machu Picchu or any other high altitude place.
I totally agree with Bevvy. I'm sure you were looking forward to it, but no way should you try it. Do you have copd? You really didn't tell us much about yourself. Hope you feel better soon. Also welcome to the site.😊 Rubyxx 😊
My daughter went to Machu Picchu about 3 years ago and suffered badly from altitude sickness...she DOESN'T have any lung disease.
Please check with your GP as others have suggested.

I think you need medical advise - my first reaction would be not to go but ask your gp. xxx
I always get a lung infection when I take a long haul flight so need antibiotics before leaving England. Think it is related to recirculated air in the plane. I wanted to go see the gorillas in Rwanda plus Tanzania but dropped the idea of Rwandan gorillas when I discovered that it can sometimes be a long trek towards them and if you do not manage the walk there is no refund. My COPD is moderate and it has not stopped me travelling before but I thought this one a bit risky. Left it too late in life. You need to make your own decision Victoria perhaps after consultation with your GP and the British Lung Foundation but I think it would be better to wait and manage the holiday rather than go now and be disappointed after spending a lot of money.
A lot depends on your lung condition VictoriaG. I know for SURE I couldn't go. I had a lot of trouble in Mexico 20 years ago, so certainly could not breath at high altitude now. As others have said, you may pick up an infection on the flight ( I usually do although I am chancing one this year to USA to see my Son, DIL & granddaughter) but otherwise I have cut out all flights due to the adverse affects on my lungs.
I know how much you want to do this trip, but you must talk to your doctor before you go, for the sake of a GP visit its just not worth the risk of not going to see your GP.
More importantly right now is to get your present infection sorted out. Have you had a sputum test done? you may be on an incorrect antibiotic for the infection you have. or the dose may not be high enough. What antibiotic are you taking?
