Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with COPD in February 2011 after having been diagnosed with asthma 10 years before. I was told I have mild COPD stage 1 and 5 years later still have mild COPD so my question is when am I likely to go to the next stage ? Is COPD a slow progression or fast ?
Regards Liz x

The million dollar question!! My husband has had severe COPD for about 6 years and this year out of the blue his tests were better than they had been for 6 years!
Whatever you are doing - you are doing right! Well done!
Smoking definitely progresses COPD and has an impact on the decline. Take good care of yourself, lots of love TAD xx
I think that depends on how many infections you get and the level of lung function when first detected. My lung function went from 45% in 2007 to 25% in 2015. In my opinion its a bit of a lottery but with a lot of support from my family and medical team i will remain cheerful for as long as i can. I always look on the bright side especially if i wake up in the morning.
I think it depends on many factors how quickly Copd progresses. We just need to keep as active as possible, take our meds, not smoke, eat well, be positive in our outlook.
There's no set timetable to the progression & hopefully you will remain in the mild category for many more years 🌻
Whatever you are doing is working so carry on doing it ☺
Hi I was diagnosed mild at 56 (6 years ago) and am still mild. At the time my doctor said don't worry too much about it as something else would get me first ie old age lol. x
4 years ago I was diagnosed at 53% - 4 years later they say I'm at 56%. I wonder if it's what we don't do that helps: I don't sit around (well not ALL the time), I don't smoke, I don't settle for lungs that don't give 100% of whatever they've got (I make them work damned hard at least once a week).
I plan to annoy the missus for many years to come!
You are doing so well to be still at the mild stage. Obviously you are taking care of yourself in just the right way, so keep doing whatever it is that is working. You should be proud of yourself.
Hi, I was diagnosed 6 years ago, Fev1% was 79 to 81% when I had a sprimority test in 2011 and 2013.
Stopped smoking 6 years ago, changed my lifestyle and I've never been more fitter and healthier, still not on any medication , I've got bullous emphysema.
Can be either, but while taking measures to prevent deterioration, I wouldn't worry too much about what happens next. Just enjoy your life, keep busy and active, and make the most of today!!
I was diagnosed 11 years ago the first 3 years never changed the 4th got a chest infection my body never recovered as with every chest infection I get, it is important to keep away from people with the flu
