Pip assessment.

Hi all.

Can anyone tell me if they have been awarded pip for severe copd?

I have an assessment coming up,and am getting rather anxious hearing about all the cuts they are going to make.

I was awarded a blue badge in December as my ability to walk far is impeded by my illness.

I don't drive though.i use it when I go out with my daughter/partner.

Thank you

Yes! I was awarded last year I have COPD, I know you be feeling anxious scared worried and more but you need to go to assessment you need to say exactly how it affects you and tell them bout the worst, it was a nurse who did my assessment she knew all about COPD and she actually suffered it herself and although my COPD was more severe she knew exactly what it does to sufferers I explained my worst times I also explained my other illnesses which are minor compared to COPD we both were able to empathise with each other I told her I wanted to continue my work and she advised me no end to what I could do to help myself. I was terrified when I first arrived breathless and shaking honestly I couldn't say I enjoyed it but I got thru it and then my next worry was waiting to see if I would be awarded pip I was and although I am trying to reassure you I know that really no matter what I say your still going to worry until it's over. What I can say though is it's necessary to go as your clearly in need of this, please try relax you already have made your claim you have put down on paper your meds and how it affects you so look at this as a welcome next step that you have to take, sadly for us all disability somehow is becoming frowned on by some of those who are fit and healthy we aren't and we need help. I can't tell you to put it out of your mind I can't tell you it will be fine as already your making it a horrendous journey that unfortunately you must take but I can tell you that you shall feel so much better once it's done and be proud of yourself for asking for the help you so badly need I wish you well I really do and I shall keep looking on this site when finally you say you have done it and achieved another goal in your life xx

Wow!

That's a wonderful reply,thank you so much.

Yes,I am nervous, but not overly,as I know this is the next step to gaining back a little bit of my lost independence....

I too have other conditions.osteoporosis, which has become painful as I am unable to take alendronic, because of the side effects.

I shall def keep you updated on the progress of my claim.

Once again.

Thank you

Xx

Hi.

It went ok.

Wasn't in there for very long.35-40 mins.

Asked a load of what I thought were irrelevant questions.

(But obviously relevant to them).... Did a peak flow test.and a few arms in the air🙆 Legs in the air😊.hows your back for bending.

I'm not going to get excited tho.just wait patiently.

I do believe that the peak flow result will prob sway them tho.

Mine was 130 and I was awarded. But I don't thing the peak flow has much to do with being awarded or not

Am just pleased you have got it over with and wasn't too bad for you, honestly the hoops we have to go thru to get bit help it's ridiculous, roll on your award then I hope it comes thru early for you xx

Yes I got awarded pip last week I have COPD and psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis I got most of my points for the things I have to help me I got it for 3 years with a review in 2 years in the budget they are changing the points system at the moment you get 2 points for the AIDS you use it is being changed to 1 point from January 2017 so I will probably loose my pip to get standard rate you have to score 8 I scored 11 for daily living and I scored 8 points for mobility. I used the CAB to fill in my form for me because they know the right words to use goo luck X

Just a warning. It's not going to be given to everyone. It's not the illness that counts but the way it affects you. A lot of people with COPD are still able to work and get about, so they would fail the PIP criteria. Please don't just take it that anyone with COPD would be awarded the allowance ;-)

I eventually got DLA as an 'indefinite' award a couple of years ago. I'm now told I must start all over again for PIP - they will be writing to me sometime this year so I'm told.

You need to make sure that you tell them everything in your application, how trying to do simple things affects you and what help you get. Some people have applied and failed because they didn't put the most basic problems on their form.

I'm dreading it myself.

The first time I applied for PIP I was turned down and got it the second time I applied. And the assessor could see I was a lot worse.
