I feel for you. Have a look at the benefitsandwork.co.UK website. Sorry, don't know how to do the link. In preparation, collect copies of letters from your GP and Consultant. A copy of your last Spirometry lung function test as well. Start a diary of how your illnesses affect your daily living and walking, thinking about how you manage compared to people who do not have your illnesses and are the same age. Hope this helps. Hugs and kind thoughts coming your way.
hi,thank you, my last spirometry test showed moderate obstruction, but wuth an reduced gas transfer of 38% from 61%, my senior nurse said it is a significant drop.
Many members will tell you that these forms are written in a way to trick us...If you can manage to its best to take them to the cab but try and get any written documentation to back up what you say and get a letter of your gp or consultant and make sure you tell them about your worse days because thats when we struggle and its how the illness affects our lives that they want to know its not about the illness itself
hi mandy, the thing is the doctors and nurses dont know how you feel, so i could imagine it being hard to get letters of support from them, unless you are at the doctors or hospital for every detail.thank you
Hi Muttley123 I have a pip assessment on Saturday I got the CAB to fill my forms in for me because they know the right words to use also if you have a friend or family member who can write something about how your condition effect your daily life that will be of help too good luck and take care
Not sure if you need letters of support, just tell the truth how you feel how it affects your day to day living, the things you can not do, the help you need to complete everyday tasks. write it all down before starting to complete the form. I only had to list my consultants name and hospital respiratory nurses name and contact details ,gp details, dieticians details, etc . I was applying for attendance allowance as over 65. The one question was do I need help with eating I replied no as I thought they meant someone to help me to actually put the food into my mouth. I was refused, appealed they then asked why I needed to see a dietician I said because of the three stone weight loss, she then said so you do need help and encouragement to eat I said yes ,she then said I would get the allowance. Mandy is correct its the way a lot of these questions are asked. Get help to fill in the form.
amanda 2 I did say that the form I was filling in was for attendance allowance as I am aged over 65. I accept that the form I was filling in may be different. I also photo copied my letters from specialist giving my diagnosis ,my discharge letters from hospital also letters from dietician to GP I also listed all my hospital apps during the previous twelve months and sent a copy of my respiratory tests.
You said you weren't sure if a letter of support was needed I was just saying it would help as any help to support your claim would be helpful take care
Muttley, take a slow breath...in......out slowly. You sound like my big fella who suffers anxiety and i.b.s. . .This government has some strange ways of taking care of its people, in fact the message is that we must stand up for ourselves and be counted!
Because we are compromised by our health we must do what we can to help ourselves and each other..😃 so fill in this form with some help. The best help I had with these forms was from 'workandbenefits' site , such great advice, invaluable when it comes to forms you must fill in.
We owe it to ourselves to do the best for us, you know why? because we are worth it, we are all loved, all unique, all special !
Good luck and chin up, let us know how you got on, all the very best, huff x
