I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia, IBS, CKD, Tinnitus and have just been diagnosed with Sarcoidosis. Can anyone tell me if there is anything that I can do to alleviate the burning sensation in my eyes. Any advice warmly welcomed as it is driving me mad

Hi sorry to hear this. There are folk on here with sarcoidosis and I am sure they will be on in the morning with sensible advice and tips. x

Thank you very much for the advice. I am seeing the lung specialist on Friday so the eye drops/flannel treatment will do for now.

Sorry to see you are having such a painful problem with your eyes and it seems like inflammation of some kind. I care for hubby Pete who has sarc and my daughter in law has lupus but neither mention sore eyes.

You need to see a specialist and have your eyes checked to see what can be done.

Wishing you well. Xxx

I have sarcoidosis. it affected my eyes but no tin the way you describe. They were sore and gritty and permanently gunky - like conjunctivitis. The best thing I found and it was recommended to me by my opthamologist was putting as hot a flannel as possible across your eyes morning and night. This really helped me. However once I started on the steroids it cleared up.

But I still do that after a long day at the office.

Good luck.

Hi,I'm so sorry that you're having such a time of it.Ive got sarcoid in my lungs liver skin and eyes and I feel your pain, because the eye issue is so painful.I tried a host of eye lubricants,I no longer produce tears, but the inflammation you're having just now,I've always found helped by cold, and found an eye thingy you put in the fridge and it helps take some of the sting out,the old teabag tip helped me too and you can have them warm or cool.I pray that you find some comfort and peace from the horrible disease xoxoxo

Hello. I have had sarcoidosis for several years and consequently do not produce enough liquid (tears) in my eyes. I have been prescribed Viscotears 2.0 g/g eye gel in single application capsules by the consultant at my hospital eye clinic. You could ask your doctor to prescribe these with a repeat prescription. I understand that single application eye gel capsules are better than a bottle of eye liquid such as Optrex as they don't contain preservatives. Until you get an appointment with your doctor, please go to your chemist and buy a small bottle of Optrex or similar (there are lots of choices). Your doctor or eye clinic consultant will be able to advise you on bathing your eyes with boiled/COOLED water.

My sarcoisosis consultant at the hospital referred me to the eye clinic at the same hospital several years ago. Your doctor may be able to refer you. The eye clinic prescribed me the Viscotears which I have used since (four or more times a day). Also if your eyes continue to be very sore, the eye consultant can arrange for little plugs to be put into the drainage holes at the top and bottom of your lids (nearest to your nose. They are called the punctal holes. It doesn't hurt as they give your a local anaesthetic first. (Lots of people think these holes are where the tears are produced, but this is not the case - I understand tears are produced from under the eyelids.) You could look up "punctal holes on the internet.

Thank you Marie and gothmum for your tips which will help me too. I also have a gel filled mask with holes for the eyes which can be kept in the frdge and helps when eyes are sore. I cannot remember where I bought it from, but I would think Boots the Chemist will have them. In Google I typed in "gel filled eye mask" and lots of sites came up, including Amazon at £2.95 +pp. I do hope the soreness in your eyes gets better very soon and you are treated well for your sarcoidosis. xx

Thans for your kind advice. Bit fearful about the whole thing but I know I will have to roll with the punches and get on with it. I will but need a little time. Thanks again
