Seal cough on and off for a year now.

Hi. I'm 19 years old. I've been having this really deep cough(like a seal) when I cough it really hurts my chest. Almost like I'm having a heart attack. Also when I cough it hurts my back. I have a slite wheeze. I went to the doctor the other day and the doctor thought that I had a mild case of asthma. So he sent me for a chest X-ray. I got a call today that everything came back normal.

Hi Chelsea, I haven't seen you on here before. I looked at your profile and noticed that you have been posting on a few forums over the last year about various pains. It seems you have a lot of pain in a lot of places with not much input from your doctor. Do you have confidence in him/her? If you do, you should go back and try and talk things through. Perhaps a family member or friend could go with you for support? If you don't have confidence in your surgery then maybe it is time to look at changing GPs? I hope you find some relief.

Chronic pain is awful Chelsea and maybe you need a 2nd opinion from a Doctor to really find out what is going on. Not sure what part of the United States you live in but could weather play any part in your problems? Good luck to you and hope you get the results you need. Take care. xxx

Go to another GP

Go to emergency

It's free in Australia and they thoroughly check you out- Dont know where you are?

Do this when you think it is worse than normal.

I agree with all the above, Chelsea. A cough for a year and unexplained pain needs thorough investigation. Find a different doctor who will take you seriously and tell them everything you have said on these forums. Maybe get a close relative or good friend to come with you for support. You deserve to be taken seriously. Good luck - I hope things improve for you!

Just to say I understand what you're saying about coughing like a seal. I did as a child. Was finally dx as asthma in early 50s. When climbing hills, running or swimming I'd often think the problem was my heart too.

I'd go back to the GP and tell him/her you'd like an inhaler to control that wheezing. It will change your life - and prevent problems later in life. X

I had exactly the same thing and your the only person i have ever heard say the same thing.....

An xray doesn't always show problems with the lungs so go back to your gp if it dosnt stop
