It can only have been a flash flood...it knocked the fence on the edge of our field totally flat...even the heavy earthenware flower pots are nowhere in sight...Himself found a couple on Kitty's field, but goodness knows where the others ended up.
The water had also come right over the little rickety bridge between our garden and the top of Kitty's field...lying on the top of the bridge were several sawn-up logs and half a dozen apples...
And the water also went into Teresa and Reuben's shed...they'd done such a good job on it...carpeted and lined and painted...they have a bed settee in there and a heater. The carpet is a right off...as is the heater and electrical wiring...and the duvets, which were in a box on the floor.
The rabbit...who must be at least fifteen years old...was unscathed, even though the water went straight through the polytunnel and out the other end...he lives in the tunnel during the winter months. Difficult to tell whether he'd been upset by the noise the water must of made...he's a grumpy old buggar at the best of times.
Himself has done a sterling job of clearing my shed out...much can't be salvaged but it needed a decent sorting out.
We didn't hear a thing...the wind howled all night and the rain was lashing down but neither of us heard the telegraph pole being swept away...how strong must the water have been to do that! It was already sodden wet...
The roof stayed on the barn where the donkeys are, which is a huge blessing...
So there are bags of sodden fabric scraps and wool mixed in with donkey shite because that had washed off the field into the shed...imagine the sheer force to get it through the wood...it's ship-lap and it's been lined inside...not big holes or gaps...the mats are hung up in the other barn to dry...the electrics will need to be discarded because they're soaked...all the papers I use for making cards is like wet loo roll...
But the cottage is more or less dry and the animals are grand...my stash will begin again at the end of the week with a package of fabric from a lovely woman who's family tree I'm compiling for her...though I'll probably plunge right in and begin something new!
Thank you ever so much for all your words of kindness and support...
