Can anyone please tell me if they have read about RePnue coils lately .I read about six months ago this procedure of putting coils (like paper clips) into damaged lungs, was going to be a great procedure for people with server COPD, since then I have not heard anything about them.

The RePnue coils.
They seem to be being superseded by the valve but that is also only available on clinical trial. They are recruiting for it at the moment...two hospitals that I know of are Kings Mill, Mansfield and a hospital in Sheffield. I have just started at Kings Mill but the screening process is quite long. They do pay travel expenses and have folk travelling from London and even farther afield.
My consultant wants me to have this. He didn't say anything about it only being trIals . Must admit I'm not keen until I speak to a few who have had it. I think they do it more in the states
The trial that I am on, is from USA. When I have had the scans etc, they are sent to California for them to scrutinise and they have a say as to who is or is not suitable. The trials for moderate COPD have already finished with very good results. That is why it has now moved onto severe COPD patients.
My consultant says he wants to learn more about long term effects as some negative results are being found such as values clogging with mucus and harboring infections.
A mixed bag really.
