Try using a mask

If the nasal cannula is making you sore the use a water based cream such as K Y Jelly. NEVER use petroleum based creams such as VASELINE with oxygen.

Try wearing the cannula differently.

Place your head through the loop of the cannula so it is around you neck .

Rotate it so that the tubing is at the rear, hanging down your back.

Fit the cannula in your nose, looping the tubing back over your ears, and slide the clamp up to tighten it behind your head. It just moves the pressure a little and does give some relief.

If that does not help, you could try something like this -

Yes that I use if no ask your supplier about super soft cannula they are very good and do not hurt your nose or ears I have been using one now for over three weeks and still as soft as the day I started using it recommend them

Is there something wrong with my comment my husband who died 2 years ago from heart failure used to wear a mask because he used to get sore nose.

Not sure what you mean Bless but theres something wrong with the site, its been very erratic since yesterday, posts not appearing or getting deleted, "500 internal server" messages - so dont worry, its nothing to do with you. Robin

Nothing wrong with it but Rib was explaining how you can correct putting the same post up twice, which you did. :)

How long have you been on oxygen? I have been on it 24/7 for 10 years now. It was hard at first as I got very sore, but it is a bit easier now. Does your cannula have just the straight nozzles and/or a straight tag under? They will make you sore. Ask for curved cannulas, adjust your tubes so that they are not tight across your cheeks, and use a tiny spot of cream (E45) under your nose when you take the cannula off to wash. But make sure you wipe it all off before putting your oxygen back on. Finally change your cannula every week to avoid germs breeding. Hope this will help you.

He was explaining how you could delete repeat posts as you put the same comment up twice, not that it matters now as I see you have deleted one of them.

You have to buy your own ones, soft ones.

Another tip is to change the cannula often as, particularly if you use a higher flow of oxygen, the tubing can become quite hard. Do check with your oxygen supplier though about them providing a softer cannula, most can.

I know the dangers of Vaseline and other petroleum based ointments, but I've ended up resorting to Zinc ointment under my nose (a thin layer) to stop the irritation and hurt. KY jelly is water based and also caused soreness. I have seen people with a sort of tray thingy under the nose, which might help. My supplier gave me soft tubing with the concentrators when I went onto LTOT. Ask them -- engineers are incredibly helpful.

I am on 24/7 oxygen and I suffer with soreness and some blood, one of the nurses suggested K Y Jelly, it seems easy to obtain, googled it and got plenty of sellers. Hope this helps, I will get some myself when I can
