Plenty of water at least 1.5 ltrs per day, barley water is good, as is cranberry juice.
xx
Never had barley water. Where do you get that? I'll try anything.

Supermarket? These thing only help prevent uti, we still need an antibiotic if we get an infection.

The GP at the small local Hospital/nursing home where I worked until June this year always prescribed the following for UTI's. A Cranberry Capsule for 14 days (am) then a sachet of Ural powder in 200mls of water for 14 days am and pm. Worked wonders.
No antibiotics? What would Ural powder be? I hate to take the antibiotics. Too many side effects. Yet I read you have to.

Ask a pharmacist for advice. Powders bought over the counter can clear up cystitis. Worth a try . If they don't work best to have a sample checked . Need to keep sipping water .
Women should stand up, walk around the bathroom and squeeze the last teaspoon out. That is the little bit that gets infected. An elderly Scottish GP told me that in the 60s. It works. Kaye x
That makes sense. It is driving me crazy! Burning and feels like I constantly have to go. Maybe that's why my lower back has been hurting also.

Back ache is more common when the infection has reached the kidneys Ruby.
Hi Rubyred,
If you've got pain in the kidney area I really would be calling the doctor. Kidney infection is more serious than bladder and can potentially damage the kidneys. Get on the phone!
Meanwhile drink pints and pints of water (to try to flush the infection through).
Might also be an idea to have a bladder scan ( by District Nurses or at your local continence service) if you have a history of frequent urinary infections....
Take care

I found having that having more showers than immersing myself in the bath during an infection, cleared it up quicker. I was told that soaking in the bath, although it helped with the aches and the pain, only spread the infection. It may be in the mind, but it helped me.
Cranberry juice - my daughter suffers with them and she has found cranberry very good and is taking supplement now. Good Luck xx
I hope you've seen a doc by now Ruby. You can't mess about with urine infections they can easily transfer to your kidneys which I'm sure you know is much more serious.
For relief of the burning (an uneducated guess here) avoid acid food & concentrate on an alkaline system until you're better. Loads of fluids to flush the urinary tract.
Good luck xx
I appreciate everyone's advice. I am going to be getting some antibiotics today. I agree, it's nothing to mess with. Delaying treatment could spread it to my kidneys. Have enough problems. Don't need bad kidneys! After I'm feeling better, I will try the cranberry pills, as a preventive.
Did read if you have acid reflux, cranberries might be a problem.
Anyone with reflux, drink cranberry juice? π.xx
I avoid all acid & animal fats Ruby & have done since having an ulcer in my early 30's.
I'm taking 20 billion live 'friendly bacteria' daily at the moment to rebalance after a week of horrible antibiotics.
Glad you're seeing the doc. Don't forget to remind him/her you get them frequently and ask why that might be.
Good luck. P xx
ps. That article of stilltruckin's mentioned that research now shows cranberry isn't the be all any more.
Get some (Dermol cream) from your doctor wash with it day and night. infections stop.
Another thing I never heard of.
That will get rid of uti? You have used it for that? Its always good to have many ideas. βΊxx
I had many hospital admissionss because of infections. since myself and my wife have used this we have had no trouble and that is nearly two years free. Ask your doctor to give you a repeat subscription and use it instead of other bathing soaps etc. it will work but first make sure you have cleard the last infection first.
i was always told to wait an extra couple of seconds to make sure your bladder is completely empty each time. so far i've been fine and i'm 81. hopefully this may help.
Ruby I hope you're feeling a little better by now πππΉ xhuff π
