Copd injection

Hi I'm starting a course of injections next week to help with my copd I was wondering if anyone on here has had them and did they get any relief from them thanks

What kind of injections? What do they claim to do? Might prove interesting 🌷

I dont know much about it myself the only thing I know is if you have a allergy of any type it helps to block it so it doesn't reach the lungs I had a test last week and my inflammation level was 52% in my lungs you have a 16 wk course to see if it works 1 jab every 4 weeks then they review after 16 weeks when I find out more il let you know .

Yes I have had copd for about 12 years not the easiest of things to cope with I loved to do lots of outdoor things which I can't do now so I get down sometimes.

I would really be interested in this I am struggling breathing matron says it a wheeze not my copd had to take my rings of ,got wedding ring allergy it's not the metal my rings are platinum it's something that has got underneath them my fingers are a mess

What sort of test did you have too find inflammation in your lungs ?

It's a machine my respiratory nurse uses its a small screen with a cloud on it you inhale hold your breath then breathe out the cloud goes across the screen then it gives a reading of your inflammation levels sorry I can't be more specific.

Had cataract op and was allergic to eye drops but when I asked about allergy testing I was told they don't do it for adults

Have had several bad reactions to things and carry epi pen with me

Hi Never heard of injections my COPD is progressing rapidly and I am on maximum medication. I have been exposed to dust contaminated with asbestos for the last 22 years but no one seems to take this seriously as a cause of my COPD. Has anyone got any experience of this and comments on how I can get further treatment. I have gone from being a fit sportsman to a creaking breathless old man in 10 years. I believe it is to do with the undeclared asbestos and dusty building I have worked in since 1993.

I would be most pleased to receive any comments.

I've never heard of these injections either. Itust be something new. We are all fascinated now, so, don't go disappearing on us Lol.

Could be Hydrocortisone, which is a type of Prednisolone.

No I don't think it's hydrocortisone apparently it's a new thing out I will know more next Thursday.

I think the drug you are referring to could be Zolair (Omalizumab) I was part of the original trial some 14 years ago. it worked wonders for me as at the time I had been diagnosed with allergic Asthma and had been in hospital. I hoped that eventually I would be allowed to continue with the injections. When the nhs allowed this drug to be used it was very expensive and the guide lines then were that it had to be administered only by doctors, and that in order for a patient to be allowed them they had to have had at least 2-3 hospital admissions in the previous 12 months. Since then my own diagnosis has changed I now have copd emphysema and bronchiastis so I don't think it would be suitable for me now. I always regretted not being able to have this drug prescribed for me. One of the reasons it was expensive was all the tests you had to have beforehand to see if you met the criteria. The only reaction that I had to it was a swelling and redness a bit like the flu jab at the site of the injection.

Hi clematis thanks for you post it sounds very similar to what I might be having I've had tests and been told it's very expensive I was told it was on trial approx 20 yrs ago but it was stopped for a while don't know why I'll give it a go and hope for the best I will let you know how I get on thanks

Hi Marian-b From what I can remember it was stopped as they were allowing children to trial it and I believe someone had a bad reaction to it. The original name was Omalizumab. It also took a long time because of the cost.

Thank you for that I've read up on this medicine it makes for some scary reading on the side effects but I have to try it as I feel so bad

If it is Xolair then that's a treatment for allergic asthma, some people have major side effects, some minor,others say it is a wonder drug, it is very expensive so only used where other asthma medication not working. There are many similarities between the different types of COPD and asthma and I'm sure they overlap- the smell from air fresheners cause my bronchial tubes to constrict which is an allergic reaction.
