That's a great idea Vashti, you'll do really well. I went through a phase of trying to write about 10 years ago, I bought a creative writing course but, I ended up selling it on ebay because I just couldn't do it.
There are some fantastic sites for creative writing and some pay pretty good prize money too.
Sorry I can't help with the publishing, but I think the James Herriot books said at the beginning that the stories were not based on specific people, I can't find a copy to check though....just in case of libel I guess.
I had all his books at one time, but they were second hand and tatty so I recycled them. Perhaps someone else could advise you.
Wasn't Fifty Shades first published as an e book? Hee hee.
Soooo sorry can't help but I hope somebody can. What a great read. Please can I buy the first copy signed of course so when your rich & famous it will be worth a fortune naugty Nan
Leave the names in. I am going to. Can't wait to sued by some of the chaps (and they are all chaps) who have let me down. By then I shall probably be on O2. Can just see me in the witness stand, wheelchair and oxygen tank. Gasping my last and getting REVENGE!!
Go for it.
Quite incidental, and totally irrelevant but I have four grandchildren who will have Irish accents. How brilliant is that? Keep trying to hear the accent in your posts.
Get going on the computer. Limit yourself to a few paragraphs each day. And build in lots and lots of rewards and treats.
Love and hugs

Great idea Vashti! Have you heard of Unbound? It might be worth your while to visit their web site and see if they might be a possibility. Put me down for one of the first edition 😄
Hi vashti so glad you are going to do this. My advice is to separate it into different sections ie one section on Irish life in the past, One on way of living in Ireland, another on physical features etc. You could do them as little stories in their own right as well - under sections but separate if you know what I mean. Little stories in their own right. x
This is great news, I can't help with the book side of things but could maybe help with any illustrations if you like 😀 I will need one of the first editions of course lol! 😜 xxx
Ooh Vashti I'm going to leave another 'useless' reply cos I don't know anything about publishing either. I really love reading what you write though - the atmospheric descriptive prose you write - so beautiful and often very funny. I know that other people here think so too so that's got to be a BIG source of encouragement to actually do it. People WILL want to read what you've written. Go for it missis! Google how to get your book published and send off a sample. Even something you already have, like your 'favourite things' you posted on here the other day. Good luck xx piggi
A relatively cheap way of publishing is to use Blurb. They will produce a hard copy as well as a. Pdf version. I used them to create a photo memories book of about 30 pages and it cost me around £30 for a beautiful quality book. It might be worth looking at? Otherwise programs such as Adobe photoshop offer a book format - again. Pdf
I agree with Frose, try Blurb Vashti, they're very good and not too expensive. I would be one of the first to buy a copy. You are a very good writer and I don't think you realise it? I used to be (many years ago) a publicity and sales manager for a publishers, and if you could see some of the utter rubbish that gets put into print, you would realise how talented you are. There is someone in my area that does private publishing (not a big company, I mean) but I cannot think who they are right now? If I can recall them I will PM you. Good luck. XX
Oh Nikkers, I do hope you are able to recall the publisher. I couldn't help but chuckle to see all of us that has encouraged Vashti to write a book but only you are able to give her potential help. Maybe some off us could do a little research and PM our findings to Vashti. Do hope it come to pass. She draws such vivid pictures with words you can envision yourself being there. I often, while reading a new posting , imagine I'm sitting at her kitchen table, having a cuppa tea and a cat rubbing against my legs, listening to her tell about it!!
Oh my, I do go on!
By the way, I do enjoy your post too!!
Hope the sun is shining and the birds are singing at your house today.
I too am very pleased that you are thinking of publishing your stories. I always read your posts first. You have such talent. Thank you for all the happy hours you have given me.
I can't help either, I wish I knew someone in the publishing business...so happy that you are doing it though. 😊. Xxx
When you consider the huge cross section of people on this site, and look at the number who love your posts Vashti, you have an idea of the number of Kindle readers there would be, (and I am one) who would buy the book. I wish I could help you, but proof reading is more my thing......grammatical and spelling errors shout out at me.
My husband and I have printed and published a lot of books. I will pm you Vashti. Rather busy right now but will be in touch. I need to find out about published ebooks.
We have only done printed ones so far.
One we are very proud of is The Faithful Few, the history of Catholic Recusants in Norfolk (16th Century)
Frank Devany was my teacher at Secondary School, and The village he lived was called Walbreswick not Warbleswick. I lived there too.
There is a copy of the book in the British Library.
I saw him at a school reunion, he told me his life's work had been researching the book. the manuscript had been typed on an old Remington. Was full of tippex and crossings out.
We took it on as a labour of love. We charged only for the costs. A thousand copies were sold to raise money for a small extension at St John's Cathedral. Frank was a wonderful man and an inspirational teacher.
Alternatively, put all your stories in a Word document copy them to a CD and send them to a publidher, Michael Joseph would be a good start, Random House, Virago, Bloomsbury Books. Or maybe get yourself an agent to do the leg work. I think your work is suitable for a much wider audience than any thing we could do for you.
