I have had two endoscopies which must be similar. I refused sedation which was offered as I was meeting the grandchildren afterwards. Not pleasant at the time but it was soon over. All the best x

Sedation just makes you relax, you're not knocked out... but with it most people don't remember the procedure afterwards. Takes longer to recover with sedation, and you have to have someone to take you home and stay with you for 12(?) hours afterwards to keep an eye on you.

I've had a couple without... not nice, but not giving birth... and drove myself home 20 mins after... you'll be fine. Makes your eyes water tho'... :)

They won't knock you out.. they need you to swallow, so you have to be conscious.

Hi, a wArm welcome to you.

Yes, I've had several. I always opt for 'sedation'. It's nothing to worry about at all. It's mild sedation, having said that I didnt know a single thing about mine. Over in moments. I had to promise either be picked up or take a taxi from the hospital although I never did. Twice I locked my bike up outside the hospital & cycled home & at least twice I drove home myself (okay, naughty me).

Don't waste your energy panicking anymore. Please 😃

I had sedation, I didn't remember anything until they were giving me results, couldn't quite remember what was said, very sleepy. I was then taken to a side ward where they left me to sleep. Once awake they wouldn't let me leave until i had tea and toast, they want to be sure you can swallow. I didn't even have to put a gown on, you wear what ever you turn up in. So all in all nothing to worry about. Not pain during or after.

Kindest regards

It is good to know you are booking your appointment. This forum is full of people who have been through one thing or another and they are all ready to help, no matter what the question. One way or another they have all helped me, sometimes unknowingly, through bad patches. They are a great set of lovely people.

Kindest regards

Sedation does not normally totally "knock you out" just makes you feel "dreamy" and you do quite often doze and do not remember anything about the procedure. It is not like a general anaesthetic. Personally I would always choose not to have sedation because I do not react well to valium type drugs and these used to include pre-meds as well so always ask not to have them. Talk to a health professional about your concerns and I am sure they will be able to put your mind at rest. It is true, and we all know it to be true that worrying doesn't help but it is so hard not to. Am sure someone at your surgery can talk to you about the procedure and the sedation and help allay your fears.

Love and hugs

I had a bronchoscopy and was mildly sedated. It makes you feel sleepy, relaxed and pretty unaware of the procedure but doesn't come with the risks of full general anaesthetic. You usually have a 2 hour period of rest afterwards for monitoring and you will need someone to pick you up. You also can't sign any papers for 24 hours or operate heavy machinery! :-)

Morning Stephed.

I already have gallstones and take Omeprazole to protect stomach.

My GP feels I may have a hernia. I lost 4 stones last year when gallbladder started playing up. I have osteoporosis too. Lost another half stone. I'm hoping not to disappear!!

I had sedation before spinal anaesthetic for hip op. Felt fantastic. I asked the nurses later what the sedation was. They looked at each other. "You don't want to know." They said. "Oh yes I do." "Well... It's like Rohipnol, the date rape drug." "Ah.... Then all is explained," I said. "I could have been anyone's. No wonder I was flirting so outrageously with the anaesthetist." So be warned... Or not..."

Good luck
