Hi all I gave up smoking 7weeks ago .the first 5 weeks went well without any problems at all .however then one night started to have tightness in my chest and my breathing was not very good .i also felt really tired and fatigued and I still do now .when I gave up after 4 days I had a ecg because of really bad chest pains but was told my oxygen levels and everything was ok .i was hoping this was something some people go through after giving up but I described what I had been going through the last few weeks to a chemist last night and he said to me it sounds like copd .so I think i had better get back to the doctors .any input off anyone would be greatly appreciated .thanks

Hi,
COPD has not given me any chest pains, just not being able to breathe properly...I also didn't have any chest pains after stopping smoking. You have done the best possible thing for your health in stopping smoking neilninja, I'm no DR but sounds to me like anxiety/panic attack, however you know the best thing to do is go back to your GP to put your mind at rest, call him in the morning..best go to bed early to get in the call queue
Hi neilninja, i gave up smoking 14 months ago because of breathlessness, I used a vapour cig. I remember struggling for a canny few weeks but i thought it was because of the stuff coming off the chest. within a couple of months my breathing was so much better. Only your doctor can accurately say what is the matter with you, but it doesn't hurt to get checked out. Good Luck x
Hi, i had the opposite. Gave up smoking 2 1/2months ago, 48 hours after giving up i could hardly breathe, could not walk more than 50 yards without struggling for breath then dry retching.
This went on for 5 weeks, now starting to feel better.
If you have a cough, see your Dr.
About six months after I gave up smoking I had a medical procedure which put my head lower than my chest for a time. In the recovery ward I coughed up so much rubbish from my lungs afterwards I felt exhausted. The nurses said it was because giving up smoking had loosened the mucus and being upended had given it all a chance to slip out in the one session. Maybe you're having the start of something similar. Do see your GP to find out for sure.
Well that's the thing I've brought nothing up off my chest and I never get a cough. Sometimes it's hard to clear my chest there's no rubbish there but it does make my throat sore.
