Oxygen Question

Seems to me like even on a low amount of oxygen at night, I wake up with irritation to my throat and coughing a ton. Sometimes loads of congestion. Very unpleasant ...

If I could find a way to alleviate these things, I would be a happy camper ... :)

Anyone got some suggestions, I would be very grateful ...

Cindy

See about getting some humidity added, that might help. You will have to ask your doctor, good luck, Nadine

try raising your bed at the headboard or prop yourself up on pillows - it might help :)

If you have not been sleeping with oxygen for long, dare I suggest that your body will hopefully adjust to this new irritant. Rib

I also suffered the same way

If you are not a co2 retainer, perhaps by using the Buteyko trick of Taping your mouth at night might stop the cough and the dry throat. Talk to your doctor first before trying anything.

I have initially taped my mouth at night firstly by putting placing the tape vertically in my mouth until I got use to it and then horizontally. I no longer tape my mouth BUT I try to breath through my nose all day with my mouth shut.

I not only feel better, but my family love me further still. NO TALKING.

Just see your doctor before trying anything

Ciao and good luck,

Tony

My illness is pulmonary hypertension ... so I have to be very careful ... I will talk to my doctor before I do anything.

I notice that when I lay down on my pillows , or sit back in a chair, my my saturation levels drop down ... often to 90.. but when I sit up, my levels return to 94 to 98. Why is this?

When I work out, walk, become physically active, my sat levels drop ... then they come back up. My daughters drop a single point and bounce back really fast at 98!! I am kind of envious ... lol :)

Also I notice if my kids are sick and I'm feeling like I'm catching their cold or what ever they have, my oxy levels will be low or dip. When I sleep & the cannulla comes off for whatever reason ... i will wake up.

Last night I woke up and my nose piece had been off and my sat levels were in the 70's ... I was a little frightened to say the least. I don't recall ever dipping that low... However, the levels bounced back fast enough I guess. It was scary

How long does it take to get used to the oxygen therapy before the cough and irritation will stop? I'll take honey tea and a teaspoon of honey to sooth my throat ... sometimes the nasal congestion is awful. I also take Robitussin to thin the mucus out and help eliminate it ...

Thanks for all the help.... :)
