Hi itsBAme, It just makes me angry and crazy seeing how the NHS has been messed up. It really IS barmy.

It's national NHS campaign day on the 28th, happening all round the country.

We already have several tiers in the health service - acute V chronic; proposals to divert people over 75 away from A&E. When I was a small child & had rheumatic fever; there was no NHS but my Grandfather was an Engineer & he protected himself & family by paying into his Union for necessary medical treatment.

Along came the NHS, with its admirable values but now unless one is extremely well paid, we are dependent on it. Now it seems to proposal is to have a top up system & let those who cannot afford to 'top up', sink to the bottom. No doubt many will die.

On the subject of ancestry & the NHS my late Grandad survived Gallipoli; my late father survived Dunkirk & the Dday landings . Two of my Uncles died in WW1. So what, I hear some ask but it was their sacrifices that enabled a social revolution of society; including the NHS.

Alongside this proposal to 'top up' NHS contributions ; we have a PM vowing to cut taxes.

Do we really want to reduce tax further, so that wealthier people have more to spend on luxuries & people with less suffer more infirmity & early death?

Sorry, if my views are a bit strong but I feel angry. I am tired of people who know the cost of everything & the value of nothing. Margaret

That was Oscar Wilde's definition of a cynic Margaret (sure you know that :) )

And its so true. If we're very lucky we are likely to end up with something like Medicare for older people in the U.S. It doesn't even cover a year of basic meds for most people like us. They call the time when you aren't covered the donut hole. Like you say low income people will drop to the bottom.

I agree with everything you say, and your family history in the war has brought tears to my eyes. What a waste of all their efforts and sacrifice. The extraordinary social revolution you cite meant free healthcare for all.

Thank you so much for your rightly angry reply.

This idea stinks! My family too fought and died in both wars so that later generations could have a better life than they did. If this is brought in it is betraying them and us. x

I have yet to come across anybody,I don,t have any wealthy friends, who would not be happy to pay a penny or two tax in order to protect our NHS.I shall be collecting signatures, locally in the street,on the 28th with "38degrees" campaigners.I shall do anything I can.It baffles me that people who don,t have lots of money and want to keep it would vote Tory.but somebody sure is voting for the greedy, selfish bleeders.:D :x

im from edinburgh where we have our royal infirmary,, a fairly new building,,,, rented ??

i'm no brain of britain , but the car park there costs an utter fortune, they must make a fortune, there is always a big queue at the automated pay in,, all putting £10 and £20 notes in,, Theres car parks back front and sides,, all always packed,,, but the profits go to a private firm ? surely the nhs could make money here. Then as you go in there's a private firm cafe [a dear one as well] and the usual private shops, all making a fortune, then the cleaners are a private firm, again must be cashing in,, why cant the nhs not do this and reap the profits ?? and this is only one hospital,,,i can never understand this,,, jimmy

As many of you know I worked for the NHS for many years and over the years I saw many changes and it was the reason of some of the changes I left with hundreds of other NHS staff we need to make many changes to this fantastic service.

Medication this is a big burden on the NHS for example a 70 year old goes to the GP every week from around the age of 52 her GP will refer her to the hospital and give her a prescription which she does not use just to get rid of her. She is going to the hospital to have a x-ray on her hip to see if it has got any worse since her last one 6 months ago.

We have people coming in to this country to get free medical treatment I found this very time consuming as we would have to call and pay for interpreters.

The sanctions put on the NHS need removing its this that has broke the back of the NHS it was the final straw.
