Difficulty breathing since last 2-3 days

I am a runner, been weight training for a while now.

For the last 2-3 days i am feeling the need to take deep breaths very frequently, and after a while not being able to do that as well.

It feels like there isn't enough space in my chest for my lungs to expand. There is no pain. No problem while sleeping as well once I find the right position.

I went to a pulmonologist but he said there's nothing wrong.

I don't understand what's wrong here, I am guessing I might have pulled my pectoral muscles while weight training, but not sure.

Hi alfachat, I can only go from my own experience but this is the first thing I noticed 2 weeks before ending up in hospital with double pneumonia.

When I took a deep breath in it was as though my lungs were hitting against a stop before they had fully expanded. There was no pain or breathlessness at this point but within a week I was coughing a lot and that's when the breathlessness came.

Went to GP, he put me on antibiotics which did nothing.

went back to GP after 4 days where he referred me to hospital

They did chest x ray and said pneumonia and said I would have to stay for the weekend.

on Monday things got worse so they took me into ICU.

2 1/2 months later I left ICU.

6 weeks later I left hospital for home. :)

If you develop a cough and you start getting more breathless, like after getting to the top of your stairs then ask GP for a chest x ray as soon as possible.

I'm not trying to frighten you but quick diagnosis is the key which could save you going through what I went through.

Up to this pneumonia I was very fit and first noticed not being able to expand my lungs fully when out cycling. I now put this down to my lungs had inflamed and were to large to fit my rib cage.

Because there was no pain I stupidly noticed the problem but didn't act on it and even found it a little funny,

Tony

hi alfachat, this may well be a pulled pectoral muscle as you say,

but i can reiterate dalls post, as i had something similar, it began as you say, but without me going to a doctor [just being plain stubborn ] it got so bad , after two months approx. it was impossible to breath, . i collapsed with pneumonia and a collapsed lung.

like dall says, this is most certainly not meant to frighten you, but had i got this checked out sooner, it would have saved a lot of damage done to myself.

it might just be well worth looking into this deeper,, jimmy

Pulled pectoral muscle can reduce the way it sucks air in. The lungs work on negative pressure. Have you noticed the shoulders neck a little stiffer?

Try to control your breathing by using the stomach / diaphragm rather than the upper chest.

Be Well

Hi alfachat, I advise you should ask to see another doctor for a second opinion for sure > Breathlessness should definitely be taken seriously!

I suffer with asthma with is generally very controlled I had a severe bout of bronchitis recently which made it only possible to take short shallow breathes it felt like I needed a hole in my chest to breathe 2 doses of antibiotics later with a daily use of a Salt pipe which I say is fantastic to clear your lungs and a power breathe 30 times twice a day now in my 3rd week since I couldn't breathe and I'm ready for my running schedule again :)

Once you get the right treatment you ll be back to your running routine in no time, all the best :)

Hey alphachat, i ve been suffering the exact same thing as u said. No cough, no fever, no chest pain. I went to the doc, who got nothing wrong in me.

What did you do next? Are these symptoms for something grave? Haven't got an x ray yet though.
