Can any of you explain what a ct scan shows? I know they show lung nodules. But what do they show in regards to copd? I have at least 3 of the discs of my ct scans. What do I look for on them?

Thanks

The knowledge I have, unlike X-Rays they show soft tissue, so thing like tumours can be seen and monitored.
Although it will show soft tissue in lungs, you would need a comparison scan to difference between normal and abnormal.
A search of the Internet may show some samples

Computerised tomography (CT) scan
Some people may need a CT scan. This provides more information than an X-ray and can be useful in diagnosing other lung diseases or assessing changes to your lungs due to COPD.
I don't think its a good idea to go "looking" for things on a ct scan. To a lay person many things on scans and x rays look weird and are open to misinterpretation. Radiologists are highly trained and experienced in their field. Ct Scans are rather common place here (Australia) though from articles I've read I get the impression they don't seem to be used as freely as part of a diagnostic system in other countries. Perhaps this is a cost cutting measure. When I required a ct scan the dr gave me a copy of the report. Were you not given a copy of your report and if not could you ask for it? That way you know exactly what it shows and should you ever need another one you can compare reports for any changes etc. Reading these reports it becomes clear exactly how much they do show in comparison to a chest x 'ray. Cheers Suz
I agree that I shouldn't look for trouble. You are right in that respect. I'm very interested in medical stuff.I even have the cards
nurses study. If I could go back and do everything over, I would go to medical school. Or better yet , my all time favorite- psychology! I love it. How people see things differently. All that stuff is really interesting to me.
