Hi Peter,
The doctor, who sent you for the scan, should tell you why it is being taken and what they are looking for. As far as I know, people in UK wait quite a while for the results.

Hi Pete
In relation to how long the results take, I have all my medical records & scans and the reporting of the results by the radiologist was done the next day. Once this is done however, the information goes to your consultant who then has to get round to reviewing them and then, dependent upon the results they set your next appointment. Really frustrating process. In my case the CT was done two weeks after seeing my consultant and I didn't receive an appointment until three weeks after the CT.
Hi peter, yes it's a case of waiting for whoever requested it to give u the results, my ct scan was done due to a suspected blood clot so I was given the results the same day, u can always phone the hospital and ask if they have been looked/reported on yet. X Sonia x
I had my scan done and waited 2 wks for results and seeing the consultant,,i always ask for copies of results be sent to me as well as my doctor,,for one it saves trying to get copies if i ever need to apply for benefits etc,,,i suppose all hospitals have various times and consultants tend to be on the busy side, but yes you can always ring to check up as SONIA 1972 says,,,,good luck
often very frustrating !! but it often depends on the scan, i,e a dexa scan takes about 3 weeks, but most scans can be found out right away, but the bureaucracy [good job i have a spell check ] of the results being sent to your g,p , then depending how fast [or slow] they work, including the hospitals can be very frustrating.
strangely enough if there is something wrong they do tell you quick, so really, often, no news is good news .
an illustration being,,,,, i often waited about a fortnight to get results of an mri scan, being sent from hospital to gp,,, yet whilst in hospital i had an mri scan . as i was being "wheeled out" i asked when i would get the results!!!
, they said ,," the results will be in your ward before you!!! "
same as these other scans the same day,[busy day, no dinner ] a colonoscopy [where they found "many scattered diverticula, "]
and another scan , cant remember what it was called, but had to drink this fluid, went through a thing like a large polo mint i was told that i would feel a warm feeling throughout me [ which i certainly did, could have did with that today,,its freezing lol ] and feel as though i've peed myself, well!!!! i would have betted anything that i had peed myself [been catheterized for over a year] yet i hadn't,,,, but it was pleasing to have that feeling for the first time in over a year lol anyway that result proved a cyst on my only kidney [and im not "kid en ye" ,,,plus ct scan.
but all these results were in the ward being discussed by the doctors right away,,,,I then eventually got something to eat to save me from malnutrition lol,,
phone up your gp,[or hospital] in about a week, keep phoning till you get your ct scan results,,best of luck, peter,,,,, regards jimmy
Hi Peter,
I'm almost in the same place as you. My haematologist thought I had swollen glands in my chest and tummy, by feeling under my arms. I had had an infection that I nipped in the bud. She wanted to make sure it wasn't cancer. I thought she told me there was nothing. What a surprise when she reminded last week of her suspicion last August, and she wanted another scan to verify that everything is in order! So I went for a blood test today to check my kidney function because they inject a contrast product that might affect the kidneys! You shall be "invited" for a scan. I've already have my next appointment with my consultant, Hopefully, she will have the scan result. That' s how it works for me. I hope that the same sort of procedure will be followed on for you too.
Hi Peter iv been waiting more than 3 months for my results from Preston phone the hospital today and got sorry about that and she would get the surgeon to look at my scan results and then get him to write to me
