Eyes not right!

Went for eye test today!my eyesight has NOT improved as I thought but actually got quite a lot worse.i already have cataracts but the main problem is the pressure which is worryingly high.So been referred to hospital for tests.Heard from a friend about the "eagle trial" which I think treats the cataracts and relieves the pressure but not sure if it,s "nice" approved going to ask GP about it.So, more hospital visits looks like this may be my record for such visits this year,oh well as long as it,s visits and not residing won,t be too bad.Hope you,re over your hangovers(haa Haa I don,t{can,t}drink) and coping well with the cold weather.Regards D.

Hi Sonia,my first job after school was in an opticians, fixing specs not testing eyes,so I know the basics but this was very confusing. It seems my eyes have got so bad taking off my current specs made it easier to see as the prescription had changed so much.Oh well onward and upward, you keep cosy and warm too, regards D.

I am sorry you have having eye problems. Is it possible it is glaucoma? This raises the pressure in the eyes and my mum had it. It doesn't usually cause problems if it is caught before your sight is affected much and all you need is drops to put in every day. It is very important that you have an eye test every year x

Hi Cough, not too sure yet ,might need the peepers lasered or might get away with drops or might even get the cataracts sorted as they, lol need doing at some point anyway. Will bore you all with the details as soon as I know.Regards D. :d

Hi Farmer, sorry can't say anything to help, but thoughts are with you as i have had cataracts for a while now, they won't operate 'til they get worse, or so i'm told. Makes driving in the dark a big no no for me. But as you say, hosp. visits preferable to hosp. stays!! Keep well. Kin Xx

Can't help re.the problem with pressure in your eyes (though my thinking is that it could be Glaucoma &,as Coughalot says , if caught early hopefully can be kept in check with eye drops & regular checkups.) However I do have very recent experience of Cataract surgery & it's amazing . I am minus glasses for the first time in sixty two years - I had the first one done on October 7th & second on 1st November . I have gone from being " Monster Myopic" & having dense cataracts to only having to wear glasses for reading. It's a whole new way of life - I can also drive without glasses , so I really hope they sort you out soon - Good Luck -Helen.

Hello Farmer D, Good job you have hospital appointment and get this sorted. I've had both cataracts removed and the result is amazing so if you are offered this I would think you should go for it. It is under local anaesthetic so no problems with breathing. The other thing which could be wrong apart from Glaucoma is AMD that is macular degeneration, but the tests will sort out this. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions until you understand exactly what is going on, and if anything can be done. Best wishes.

I've had both cataracts done and like others my distance vision is great, no need for glasses, just a pair of cheap reading glasses needed. However I also suffer with Glaucoma (high pressure) in one eye and have been on drops for about three years with regular check-ups for fields of vision. The problem with glaucoma is it damages the retina and the damage is not reversible, so eventually if the drugs aren't effective in controlling the pressure, the consultant will try to persuade you to have a trabulectomy which involves inserting a drain duct into the eye to release the pressure. This operation is not as straightforward as the cataract op, and is not without complications so to date I have resisted this, but eventually I may have no option.

Certainly I'd advise you to get the cataracts done as soon as possible as the results are great.

Good Luck

Glad you are getting it all sorted FarmerD. That eye pressure pain is like no other. Mine doesn't last too long now and has abated greatly over the last few months. They've moved my 2nd appointment in January to March so I don't think I could be too bad. Hope you don't have to stay in hospital.

No hangover after the new year for me unfortunately! Can't hack it anymore.

Cold here and in London. Damp and wet too. Any snow where you are in the highlands?

Take care FarmerD and Good Luck. Hope the news is all good for you. Sara x
