Hi, I was wondering if there is any over the counter medicine that will help to bring mucous off my chest. I can feel it there, but I am struggling to bring it up. Thanks Marie.x

"Hello Marie. what I find useful and use for bringing mucous from off my chest which works for me, is warm Maple syrup. I heat some in a pan with a drop of water. let is cool then slowly sip it. not only is very soothing for a cough but it does help cough up the awful phlegm, failing that Marie. ask your Dr for some Mucodyne ( I think that's how you spell it ) Good luck to you Marie...Megan"

Thanks Megan, I seem to be going through a rough patch. I have never had so many problems since I packed up smoking. Hope you are well. X

"Your more than welcome Marie. and Yes..it was after I gave up smoking my cough and my mucus seemed to get worse I seemed to have one infection after another, But a few months down the line and my lungs seem so much cleaner now and rid of all the years of muck I accumulated from smoking., it will eventually get a lot better for you Marie. but when your suffering it, it doesn't seem so at the time. But hang on in there, and well done you for quitting the smoking.. Megan."

Thank you Biddy. Marie

ive never found anything to work for me but have a chat with your gp as a lot of us are on mucodine which keeps mucus thin and ask your gp if you can join pulmonary rehab they teach you how to use breathing techniques to get it off your chest and one way is to get a straw and fill a glass have full of water and blow into it and make bubbles it can help a lot x x x
