If you are in doubt, do speak to your doctor at length and tell him how you feel about things.....I do hope you feel better soon :)

Hi this is called lung reduction volume surgery. A friend of mine had half her lung taken away because it was diseased and no longer working. It was hampering her in her efforts to breathe. She said afterwards she felt much better and was breathing much easier. I should imagine that's the same reason why your doctor wants to do your lung as well. So please don't dismiss it out of hand as it might help. x

Hi, to be honest I've known a few people that have had it done and it's improved their lives, once the damaged/ diseased bit is removed it leaves healthy lung that works better. It's a scary thought I bet, but I would have a chat with ur doc discuss it find out the pro's and cons then make ur decision. I wish u all the best in what ever u decide to do . Take care and keep us informed we are all here to support u whatever u decide. X Sonia x

I had half my lung removed over 40 years ago, and the operation helped me a lot. I understand your reluctance and certainly wouldn't have it done if it isn't needed, but take as much advice as you can and maybe phone the help line on this site.

I am having my left upper lobe removed in Jan/Feb. This will allow the more functional parts of my lung more space to work in. These days it is not such major surgery as it sounds, almost keyhole surgery. 5 days in hospital max if no complications. Please go back and see your consultant again and talk about it, he proposed this for a reason.
