I have taken Spiriva for a few years; it does not appear to be working anymore. I am considering whether to ask my doctor give me a different long acting bronchodilator.
Has anyone on here change from Spiriva? What improvements did it give you, if any? Is Spiriva the best one available?

the problem we have is, we are not being treated for the condition which is progressive, but for the effects.
Breathlessness as a fairly standard treatment. three inhalers, one thing we can do is exercise so the oxygen is used more effectively.
there may be other reason for a increase in breathlessness, a trip to your GP may be in order.

i tried spiriva but had a bad reaction to it so my gp put me on something called eklira it works in the same way...lasts 12 hours and its still a newish drug when i was in hospital a few months ago the pharmacist there had never seen it before me
as for does it work...wow yeah it really does x
yes mandy I am on that one and find it very effective I nearly ended up with spiriva but because of arthritis I could not handle the small inhaler one thing like most steroid inhalers (this one is just a dry powder one) always gargle after use
yeah cos thrush is just another lovely little thing a lot of us have to deal with as well as everything else !! x
sure do I hate it last attack of thrush a portion of it went straight into my lungs and gave me a serious chest infection just shortly having survived another flare up
Spiriva last for 24 hours so it is just once a day. I asked my doctor recently if there was something else just as good and she said no. x
I have onbrez as well as spiriva, I also have miflonide which I know isn't available in the UK. On the whole don't get really breathless unless I walk up inclines. My lung doctor here in Cyprus said that onbrez was better for me. Guess we're all different though and I do wonder whether we get used to the inhalers and over a period of time they are less effective. Hope you get sorted.
Just like mandy6513 got taken off spiriva and put on Eklira .....wow what a difference u have to take it twice a day but who cares!!!!! IT REALLY DOES WORK. X
Just like Mandy and Shocked I too have been changed from Spiriva to Eklira - I never did like Spiriva was never convinced every capsule actually had something in it. Also fiddly to take whereas Eklira marvelous and clicks when you have taken the dose. Was also on Onbrez which I liked although somewhat fiddly and that has now been changed for Foster Nexthaler which is also simple to use and clicks when dose breathed in. Have heard both these are cheaper than certainly Spiriva - anyone else on these? I like them both and do seem better for breathing even though twice a day (and Foster's 2 puffs a time).

Thank you for taking the time to reply, been busy googling the different types of inhalers suggested. I added a link on Onbrez and Eklira Genuair. I will ask my GP about these at my next appointment. Thank you for your help.
