Dear Asimmd.

I always get very high quotes for travel insurance, I have been searching around for a quote for next year as wand to go to Jamaica for my 60th health permitting.

I have Bronchisctasis, Multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure.

I have just purchased insurance from a company called GET GOING TRAVEL INSURANCE. It cost me £180 for myself and husband. Not sure if having COPD pushes it up more.

Good luck, I know how difficult it can be to get insurance.

Hi Asimmd I thought bronchisctasis was COPD Bliss

No, no, no - it isn't! I was told Bronchiectasis is a condition and not a disease. In other words, it can be managed, with help obviously.

I'm sorry to say Claudine but Bronchiectasis is COPD google it you will then see Bliss

Bronchiectasis is a disorder, disease, condition, illness.. whereby the bronchial tubes thicken and wither due to persistent lung infections. Whilst it might give rise to dyspnoea (breathlessness) it is not classed as COPD. It is a serious illness that over time can destroy extensive parts of the lung and eventually with constant major antibiotic therapy can produce a drug-resistant infection such as Pseudomonas aerogenosa.

Claudine go in to COPD, about .com and type in Bronchiectasis Bliss

My Consultant said not. I was first of all diagnosed with COPD and after a scan he said "You haven't got COPD at all, you've got Bronchiectasis". I think perhaps the salient point is that Bronch is not connected with smoking. I have a relative who had a lung removed at the age of 4 which rather confirms this.

Hi Claudine I have never smoked and I was diagnosed 18 months ago they said it was COPD, do you have a emergence pack of antibiotics and steroids love Bliss

Really strange isn't it, all the differing advice you get along the way! Sometimes I think they club some of these things together because it's easier for the medics themselves. Yes, I have Ciprofloxacin because I am colonised with Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. Usually only a problem in the winter though. Only take steroids in the inhalers. Take care.

Did you have a scan?

COPD is an umbrella term usually used to describe conditions where the airways narrow. Bronchiectasis is a widening of the airways, but confusingly is sometimes included in the COPD umbrella. Surprisingly, people can have both and this is not uncommon (and asthma too). The treatments are not the same. This old thread may help explain if you can access it.

No bliss2 I had to fight to get COPD taken off my records as it had been put on by a junior Dr.

Your insurance premiums rise if you have COPD it makes a big difference and is usually associated with smoking or fumes I have never smoked,

Hi bliss2 no COPD is different as when you fill out the medical forms and put bronchiscttasis the next question is always have you ever been told that you have COPD.

Thank you so much for all the replies.I have COPD - Bronchiectasis - Hypertension - Ulcerative Colitis - Hiatus Hernia - Acid Reflux - High Cholesterol, all these conditions are Mild and well controlled, yet Money Supermarket came up with Quotes of £650 and Staysure refused to insure me the best I have been offered is £405 can't remember who that was now.I don't need oxygen, and the only Hospital admissions I have are for exacerrbations of my COPD and Bronchiectasis.

Is it worth bothering anymore?

I have my insurance with a bank package under written by axa. Difficult to say cost as a joint one with my husband. However was in hospital or 12dsys whilst in Spain with pneumonia and A a could not have been better. They actually phoned me in hospital every day and paid or everything. I wouldn't change to anyone else.
