Has anybody had this lung reduction treatment or heard anything about it. Where they use coils or valves?

Type Valves in the search box. I think one or two have had it done on here. Here's a link to one of them.

It worked for Johnwr but in my case it didn't. That's the bad news. The 'good' news is that it didn't make anything any worse. There are a lot of tests beforehand to check suitability and the road begins with your consultant.

Thank you for replying Johnwr Such a shame it did not work for you, and I am glad to hear that it did not make your situation any worse. My pulmonary nurse suggested this op to me and have been keen to find out more. so thank you for replying Best Wishes Mogworth

Hi Mogworth,

I have had Bronchiectasis all of my life, and now also have Emphasyma. I wrote to the consultant at the Royal Brompton hospital in London as I have recently heard about coils in the lungs and was very interested. They have just written back to me and said that your GP can refer you for this, but if you have Bronchiectasis, it's quite possible that you will not be accepted. This treatment is still in the test phase, but has had some good results.

Hope that helps?

Hi nikkers, I phoned the Royal Brompton as also very interested in the coils. I heard back today telling me the criteria, so far so good as I have emphysema, Thank you so much for replying to me. Will let you know what happens! Best Wishes Mogworth

I had the valves done in October 2011 but, like notlocal, they didn't work for me.

A few months ago Royal Brompton confirmed I was not actually an ideal candidate for valves & would benefit far more if I had had the coils.

So, here I am awaiting NICE approval for the coils, which is expected late this year apparently.

Sorry, my fault ......

NICE is the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence

Basically they approve all treatments & drugs before the NHS can use them.
