Hi I'm new here. I've been diagnosed with severe COPD last year since then I've been in and out of hospital 6 times with chest infections / pnumonia. I was last in hospital in March and the doctors treated me for TB. Turns out I have emplasema in both lungs and also a tracia bronchiostasis top and bottom of right lung. I was up to see the consultant last week and was informed the chest X-ray I had in April shows I still have infection. He did not offer antibiotics and has arranged for another X-ray I will get another CT scan if the infection/swelling has gone down to see if there's anything "more sinister" going on. I'm 50 years old, married with three kids and two beautiful grand daughters

Welcome Nige420, sounds like you have been going through a tough time, which is not good for you or your family. Well done on your first post. I have COPD too early stage. Emphysema is part of COPD now you are diagnosed I am sure the approach to your health will change and a good thing for you would be pulmonary rehab. Hope to see you more on the site now you have taken the first step.
Hi Nige420, That sounds very traumatic. My husband has severe COPD. I would first suggest you ring the BLF nurses on the helpline (click on the red balloon) - they will be able to advise and take some of the fear away. My husband has had COPD for years well over 12 now and has been severe for a good four. Good luck with your Xray. I have always found everyone really friendly on this site so if you have any questions or worries post them here I am sure you will get reassurance. Take good care, TAD xx
Hi Nige420,welcome to our friendly & helpful forum!
You sound as though you have been through the mill! You must have very mixed feelings at the moment, the advice from
Tad to ring the BLF,is a good start,& Katie's suggestion about the rehab is a great idea too.Take care,Wendells xx

Hi there Nige 420 trouble is things take sooooooooo long from "x-ray" to doctor then back to you all tooo slow .Anyway hope they can let you know soon," we" most of us that is , have emphysema and the rest a lung problem .and after so long you start getting the right medication for what they decide is wrong. Chin up, breath deep, hope thing go along quickly for you .
Hello Nige420 and welcome to the site. It's good to meet you. I think between us all here we have more knowledge even than doctors. I would disagree with you oxytic - the majority of us here have COPD which is the umbrella term for emphysema and chronic bronchitis. x
Hello and welcome to the forum Nige420. I hope the infections stop occurring.
Hi everyone thank you for your welcoming posts you have made me feel so welcome.
Katie I have been to pulmonary rehab this time last year since then I've joined the gym however I have not been since February due to breathlessness. I do swim at least 3 times a week and enjoy the steam room and jacuzzi
Sounds like you keep very busy from your reply. I would love to do swimming but need someone to go with me. It's good for the lungs and the arthritic joints. Thank you for your reply I go to the gym for ongoing exercise to maintain my lung capacity, Nige420 but some people find the steam rooms too much for the lungs I've never tried it. Enjoy your week
Welcome Nige, keep in touch and let us annoy you with our waffle,lol.D.
Hi I have brittle asthma and copd I have been intensive care with but I started treatment of xolair injections 1 a month and it works for me I'm hardly in hospital any more and don't get as many asthma attacks or chest infections I also have a syringe driver for my asthma with bricnal and sodium chloride also steroid dependant as nebuliser and of course emphysema.
Feel for you; Take medication as prescribed and think positive; Have been there I promise; and it is terribly frightened. I onlhy hope you start to feel better. My heart goes out to you; I had so many probs. and on oxy/ everyday = takes a lot of courage to adjust to your circumstances but it will get better. Believe me. Throw your pride out of the door and look after yourself;. I wish you well;.
Cheers Heho I'm feeling a bit better since I finished my course of antibiotics a few weeks ago. Hopefully I'll have a peaceful summer ta
