Does anybody know how long it takes to get appointment. And what's involved in the assessment.

Its my transplant centre too Michelle and I see my consultant there every 4-6 months. I have not had an assessment yet (still too fat) but I have had a number of tests, dexa scan, echocardiogram. From what I understand a transplant assessment usually means a stay in hospital for about 3 days. Lots of tests etc.

It took about 3 months for my first appt to come through but it wil probably all depend on how ill you are.

They are lovely people and its the best centre in the country. Good luck. I may see you there.

Thank you I've got bad empthysema on my right lung. My breathless all the time it's really just doing the simplest of things. I went back to see my consultant on Wednesday. He's now referred me to newcastle for accesment. All the inhalers they have gave me doesn't seem to work. They have also said lung reduction wouldn't benefit me as the empthsema is all over my right lung.

I was interested to read about your transplant appointment in Newcastle. May I ask which lung disease you have? I have severe emphysema and have been told a transplant is not an option by my GP and I'm wondering if this varies depending where one lives.Good luck to you.

I had a right lung transplant in 2000 in the usa at barnes st Louis and get set for a ride; my advice is right now; starting today-walk every minute you can. I walked at least 60 minutes a day for 2 years before transplant and have done so every since it works I have spoken to many transplants who say the same thing you might get some ideas here regeneratinglungs.com good luck ron peterson

Ive not been told what my lung function is but after I had it done they wanted me in hospital. The gas exchanges wasn't right. My blood gas was 89. That's why I had a ct scan which showed the empthysema on my right lung. But I get breathless doing the slightest thing. They say the treatment isn't working so that's why they have referred me.

My husband attends the freeman once a year. he is not on the active list yet and we hope to delay that as long as possible. You are in good hands with the freeman.
