I had LRVS in 1996 when I was 23, I would love to be able to chat to others who have had the same surgery as me.

I am very grateful I was able to have this life saving op, but having such severe surgery at such a young age really did change my world. I still suffer from the effects of this surgery and having reduced lung capacity to this day and it would be nice to be able to chat to others who have been through similar situations.

I had both lower lobes out when I was 15 yrs old....and I have lived a long and active life

I still have bronchiectasis ( had it since a baby that's why they did the op) and now I have severe COPD too, but still get about OK

Are you OK at the moment Showgirl

Why did they do the op on you?

Similar to Sohara. Lifelong bronchiectasis and a lobectomy at 15. Now 65. I really can't say what difference it has made if any, 'cos I don't know what I would have been like if the hadn't done the surgery. They were going to do the other lung but decided against it. I don't think from what I have heard from cons that they would do this op on me now if I were the same age as then and my bronch is as it was then and still is scattered in both lungs.

TBH I don't think about it now -to the point on my first consultation with my present consultant, when it came to examination on seeing my huge scar he asked me if there was anything I had forgot to tell him. 'No I don't think so - I think I've covered everything.' 'Not something you think would be important for me to know?' 'Oh yes, sorry' We both found it amusing.

Sorry you are still having problems. Do you still see your consultant?

Thanks for your replies everyone! I had the op because I had a carcinoid tumour that kept causing pneumonia. I have suffered with pain in the operation site ever since especially in the area where the drain was and they removed the rib from. in the last few years the pain has increased and I now have steroid injections in the site which have helped a lot.

I was wondering was this type of pain normal for anyone else? I have now just turned 40 so I suppose I am at an age when things start to ache a bit more!! I have two beautiful children and my reduced lung capacity didn't seem to cause a problem other than tiredness in pregnancy, so I have been very blessed.

Thanks everyone for you responses :)

how long ago did you have your surgical?
