Here we go again. Feel sick and shivery with a very tight chest and increasing cough along with that back of the nose feeling. And I was doing so well so far! Here goes for drugs and positivity then - just needed to moan!

And at the weekend - sod's law. Rest, fluids and ready, either to ring for help or take rescue antibs if you have them. And give vent to your feelings with us. xx

Indeed! Yes starting rescues tonight. Rationalising with myself that this is JUST a cold and won't lead to needing a bi-pap mask. The fear is one of the worst parts of this wretched condition ... Calm calm lol!

It isn't a cold - feels more like mild flu - temp of 38.5 for the last five hours but now down to 37.5 and I feel the fever has broken. Horrendous chest pains also easing off - whatever it is I advise trying to avoid it!

I sympathise with you so much. I have had this so often that I now have to self medicate and the Dr always gives me prescriptions to keep meds in the house. A short course of steroids helps a little. I am paranoid about getting colds. I do hope you feel better soon and wish I could give you some good advice. Keep warm and dry and rest if you can.

Sorry you are feeling so wretched. Hope you will phone your local out of hours medical service if those chest pains return., can never be too careful and they may be able to put your mind at rest. Wishing you well Joyce

Thanks all, it was a hellish night but so far breathing under control, probably due to starting antibiotics and steroids so soon. I have this feeling ... Might cocodamol cause excruciating chest pains? I don't fancy testing it out again just yet!

Paracetamol is a pretty safe pain relief for lung patients and to help bring down temperature, some others can cause probs and some not compatible with existing meds. Always best to check with doc about these things.

Stay in the warm, drink plenty of fluids, rest to aid recovery.

Hope you are soon feeling better.

I'm fortunate(?) to be considered grown-up enough to be allowed an emergency pack of steroids & antibiotics ..... but one thing I always use at the slightest first sign of a cold is Vicks First Defence.

If used properly & early enough It really does work - magic stuff..
