Just got c.o.p.d for Christmas, wasn't what I asked for but hey. Think I might need a bit of help finding out what to expect from it though haven't been told much yet. I'm only 57 wasn't expecting to get anything like this yet. Kinda snuck up on me. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I don't know much about COPD myself, but there are a lot of really nice people here that do and of course the BLF red balloon is a source of info as well.

Hi hicki.

The reason I said I have little knowledge of COPD IS THAT MY DOCTOR..GP keeps referring to it as an umbrella term for all sorts of lung conditions.

I have Bronchiectasis, Scarred lungs and to top it all Asthma.

I hope you make many friends on the site, they are a great bunch of people who, like us have the same problems and a lot of understanding and compassion.

copd is the term for all lung diseases,, the most common being emphysema brought on by smoking. I am 63 and was diagnosed 10 years ago, I immediately stopped smoking but 3 years ago deteriorated rather rapidly having to give up work and now on oxygen. I went to pulmonary rehab some years ago and carried on with the maintenance course, unfortunately I stopped last year but am re starting again next week. This I would strongly recommend. I have been on the lung transplant list for 16months so have to be patient and keep my strength up. Good luck and do contact BLF if you need any advise. SueE

Hi Hicki. You must have been on the naughty list this year. Sorry I can't help with COPD as my husband has IPF. Not the same. However I just wanted to say WELCOME! Now make sure you are good this year and you may be put on the nice list. Just joking. There are lots of people who will come along and talk to you about COPD. Mavis. X

I am the same as you. Same age and have been diagnosed copd. I am frustrated with my gp as they are not very informative as they don't have enough time to answer my questions. I feel I have gone down hill in the past 3 months and I thought I was going downhill very fast but then after reading comments on here, I began to think it s because the weather changed and things like that can make a difference. It's definitely a learning curve and for me rather than get bogged down with too much information, I learnt what I could do initially to help myself, stopped smoking was the first thing and after 6 months, I am learning what is normal and what isn't. I have an appointment with a specialist in February so I am hoping to learn more but. try not to worry to much and be a nuance at your doctors if need be to get all the information you want. The general leaflets you get do not tell you things like should you take extra vitamins, what can you do for your cough. The outdoor On here know and can help you. I should have asked at the begining, what stage are you at? That also makes a difference. Try not to worry and ask questions on here. I did and u had a lot of helpful replies. Regards Carol

Hi Hicki and welcome to the site. There is a lot of wonderful support on here and lots of humour too if you want to be part of that. I am a carer for my hubby Pete and he has copd (not sure at what stage though) and sarcoidosis which causes scarring on the lungs and airways. He keeps well most of the time and is usually cheerful but is a bit chokey at the moment due to having caught a cold. Everything goes to his chest. Contact the BLF nurses, click on red balloon top right, and they will do their very best to help you with any questions. Take care. xx

Hi Hicki and welcome to the best site on the Web!!

I had Beijing Flu twenty years ago which led to pneumonia which damaged my lungs and my GP always refers to it as COPD so it is like an umberella term so it really depends how you got it as to how you live with it.

I have puffers and tablets to clear my lungs and am reasonably active with three dogs, a half an allotment, eight chickens and the wife to keep me out of mischief!!

My advice is to live and eat well, take your medication as prescribed and get out of breath on purpose at least once a day to give the Tubes a workout, and don't worry cos it don't do no good....

If you are concerned about anything don't be afraid of asking the question cos people on here are living with your problems twenty four seven so someone will put you right.

Ps I'm sixty six and I'm a bit of a youngster on so you've got everything on your side!!

Hi Hicki welcome to the site I have COPD was diagnosed at the age of 42 ten years ago I'm level 4 now but I gave up smoking started to swim and had a yearly flu jab avoid people with flu and keep warm in winter,

hello HICKI welcome to the club copd is some thing you have to live with and comes in diffrant forms as not every one is the same as time will tell your best bet listen to your doctor and copd nurse read up on this site and also copd categorys and go from thereplus theres alot of old remedys to help your good and bad days on the net// ps dont hang your stocking up next year--OLDGRAMPS

Hi Hicki, sorry about your Christmas present but welcome to the site, I was diagnosed with COPD in September and have learned so much by reading the posts on this site, there is a wealth of experience here and people are always glad to help and advise.
